Suh Vs Sanders.... Leadership
I'm not a writer... but as I sat and watched interview after interview of Suh, his composure, his attitude towards the game... his expectations as a player and team mate... this discussion popped in my head.

Barry was the rock that solidified and lead the most successful Detroit Lions team in the modern era. He did it with performance, class, and a quiet, unselfish attitude.... and everyone loved him for it.

... Now Suh comes in.... and his traits so far compare... performance, class, and an unselfish attitude. But the thing that sets him apart from Barry...are his verbal expectations, his verbal standards, and his verbal acknowledgement of 'failure is not an option'.
So lets discuss it... for those that were coherent during the Barry era; you know what I'm talking about.... who (so far) has the better leadership traits?... and Furthermore... will Suh's Leadership be greater or more influential than Stafford's?
With all the superbowl, cba, and what ever... I figured a different topic would be nice....

WR Tori Gurley South Carolina 6-5 230
Barry was a quite leader and the epitome of sportsmanship
Suh is a talkative leader and plays beyond beastly. I think you could have this discussion over and over with every team. There are diffrent types of leaders you have Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning thats not to say one is better or worse than the other. I think Suh just finds himself in a better situation with the roster around him so maybe his will appear to be better at times. Besides Suh is a leader but he’s not THE leader like Barry was atleast not yet. I t use to be as Barry went so did his team but Suh has guys like Delmas, KVB, Stafford, Calvin, Dom and Hanson that are all leaders. I think the number of guys on this team with the heart to step up and take control makes this team as a whole better than and team Barry was. So maybe it isn’t the type of leader as much as the number of leaders?

True but Barry had Blades, Spielman, L. Brown and Arnold as well as others.

I don't see Suh as being a vocal leader...
he is one of the best in game already, so he gets a lot of attention, which is exaggerated in this media age. Barry didn’t have 24-7 NFL channels, 4 ESPN’s, Fox sports, versus, internet, etc. If he did, he would have conducted himself in much the same manner that Suh is. I think they are both so similar, it’s crazy. Suh is a little more demonstrative than Barry, but off the field I wouldn’t say so. Delmas is the vocal leader of the defense, not Suh. KVB is more of a leader on defense than Suh.
Don’t confuse media coverage for leadership. I love Suh, and I love Barry, but they aren’t the type of guys to rally the troops through words, in my opinion. They inspire those around them as teammates know they can count on them.
I was thinking about this last night..
About who will be the face of this franchise. Every team has that ONE player that you think of when you hear a teams name. I.e
Falcons-Matt Ryan
Green Bay-Aaron Rodgers
Saints-Drew Brees
Jags-MJD
Cardinals-Larry Fitz
and so on and so on…
I wonder who the face of this franchise will be..I’m hoping Matthew becomes the leader of this team but there are so many leaders and vocal players this team has now it’s just crazy
Life is being on the wire, everything else is just waiting.
cj is ous if you look at it like that

Suh is the face imo
You can’t call Stafford the face of the franchise when he is never on the field. Furthermore, next season if he goes down with another shoulder injury then we need to replace him. Thats all there is to it.

it's all about the media hype
and who is shown most on tv or on the internet wearing the logo.
for us, it’s suh, plain and simple. just like in st. louis, the rookie who has had considerable media hype already (and is living up to those expectations) where there really wasn’t much of a marketable, vocal leader is the face of the franchise. calvin is too quiet to be our team leader (though he probably is and will be our best overall player), and matt hasn’t been healthy enough to have a mic put in front of him for post-game press conferences. suh was absolutely dominant this year and has changed the defensive culture of a team that is recognized more for a lack of a defensive culture. add that to the fact that he was already being hyped as one of the best DL in history coming out of college and received heisman votes with his hand on the ground just adds to the fire. it’s similar to how reggie bush was the face of the saints until brees willed them to the super bowl. he was amazing at USC and that college hype carried over to the NFL. the difference now is that reggie isn’t having anywhere near the success that suh is having (already). yeah, he may have broke off some sick TD’s, but the lions don’t go 6-10 without suh. he is the next warren sapp/ray lewis-type player. defensive leadership, on top of being absolutely beastly.
yeah buddy!
Suh Vs Sanders
Its like night and day. Suh is not as vocal as a Ray Lewis but not as silent as Sanders, both show leadership through there play and are different types of leaders in different eras and positions. Sanders lead the 90’s as the best runningback ever, Suh the new millenium best damn DT i have seen in Detroit as a rookie or a vet.

Here's how I see it
If Stafford is healthy, he is the true leader and face of the franchise, BUT Suh will be our leader on defense and will also be associated with everything Detroit Lions, just like Calvin Johnson is now.
When people say Detroit Lions, they will be thinking Stafford (if he stays healthy), Suh, and CJ.
It's a terrible thing to have to tell your fans, who have waited like Detroit's have, that their team won't win it this year. But it's better than lying to them.

Suh vs Sanders
I hate to say this but I think Suh is the better Leader overall however we cant measure nor compare the two w/ what Barry did or didnt do in his Leadership position due to the fact that he went to the F.O and said give me a team or I retire, and retire he did. Did this make him less of a leader? … no not at all but the point of this is that they didnt give him the chance to be the LEADER like that in that situation.
This is truly a different time arising in the history of the Lions organization should Schwartz and company succeed in their next season especially. One thing they truly have in common is their skills are unparalleled when it comes to the potential they possess(ed).
i dont know how this went from leadership of the the two and who was stronger or better … to Face of Franchise … but i was actually working on a post for here called “Wait a minute Stafford ’ working title. But it was about this exactly so its interesting it was brought up here. So to save me some work ill just kinda do a quick run down of why Stafford is no longer face of franchise and why its actually good for him not to be while he re earns that ’title” he has never proven to be. And I am no Stafford hater btw I really hope he comes back and breaks out the can of whoop a$$ on the teams and solidify his self as a Top draft pick on his road to becoming an Elite QB.
Suh is the face and Calvin is the second face now even to Suh. Suh wrote some new history and dominated at his position and has the potential just like Stafford to be a elite player. However SUH is proven so far and this is the one factor period. We all know Cj got the stiff end when it came to a pro bowl selection before this year but even Cj is semi proven and still hasnt reached his ceiling yet, well none three have but try to work w/ me here w/ self understanding of what im trying to get at. Problem for Matt is, he isnt at all. Suh has also taken it upon his shoulders to make sure that the face of the franchise is slowly changing guards he is also going out and promoting the lions w/ the best of best players for sure even though the pro bowl is kind of a joke but trying to garner interest for possible F.A and more. He in so many ways is earning that money that they paid him and he held out knowing he was worth it. Now how is this good for Matt?
Quite simply put, it takes some of the pressures off him for having to do anything other than play every down to best of his ability while he picks back up to speed and gets back in rhythm. See they now know Detroit doesnt need Matt like they thought, though it would be great to have him hit part of his potential but it just needs a competent QB thats healthy and the holes plugged on defense and this team goes from 6 wins to 10 wins in a season. The hype for the nucleus and youth on this team says its possible and being the last team to beat G.B before they went on to win Superbowl and held them to 3 points says a lot. This year Stafford needs less pressure on his shoulders and Suh seems to be doing a good job of lifting some of that weight. The question is more so will Matt now earn that title to go next to the other 2? …
A coward dies a thousands Deaths a soldier dies once ....
My 2 cents
Unlike Barry, who could never go out in public without a body guard. Megatron could be standing next to me and I wouldn’t know him if he didn’t have on his jersey/helmet. I would just think DAMN this guy is tall. Suh on the other hand I could pick out of a crowd, not because of his size but he has characteristics and features about his face and body that make him noticeable, as does Staff. When you talk about the “face” of a team I think of 2 people Staff and SUH all the rest I would be hard put to it, to pick out a line-up of even Lions players.
