WXYZ's Tom Leyden tweeted late Monday night that the Detroit Lions are planning on making a "major announcement" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. No hints were provided as to what this announcement might be about, and his follow-up tweet didn't shed any light on it either.
Since the offseason just began and no player moves worthy of a "major announcement" can be made right now, I have to think this will be about an off the field aspect of the team. My first thought was that it could be an announcement about cheerleaders or something, but that seems unlikely.
My guess is that this announcement will be about WXYZ acquiring the rights to Lions preseason games. I don't think it will be anything major in the grand scheme of things, but for WXYZ it would certainly be a big deal. Considering Leyden is the one that broke the news about the announcement, to me all signs point to it being related to the preseason TV rights. (By the way, considering how crappy of a job WWJ did last season, I certainly hope this announcement has to do with WXYZ picking up the games in the future. That would be a very welcomed change.)
What do you guys think the announcement will be about?
