To follow up on last weeks blog, I have recently read about Roger Goodell's recent email to the players urging them to get "their union" back to the table and that every day that goes by makes it worse and worse for the league.
OK, first lets talk about the email. Emails, texts, IM's etc are about the worst form of communication that has ever been invented when its not being utilized for yes or no questions. Every single word can be taken the wrong way if somebody is less literate than the other. I read an article in SI.com this morning and I guess the players where pissed at the fact that Roger referred to it as "your union." He probably meant absolutely nothing by it but yet because we never know for sure what somebodies tone is in an email and because we aren't there; it just has to be that he was being an asshole!
I think Roger is going about this all wrong. If you wanted to mend any kind of relationship with anybody, would you send them an email? Seriously how effective can that even be? Seeing as there really isn't a lot of work to do right now for anybody, why not personally invite them to your home or better yet; have Roger show up at their home. Let the players know that even though he represents a firm stance from the NFL, he cares about the players which underneath it all is what they want. It shows that all you care about is getting a deal done and you will spend as much time with the players as needed. It may not get a deal done as quick as we want but at least they will trust him more. As I said in the title, you cannot establish a relationship via email.
