Saying goodbye to Ernie Sims....again

Was just reading through some NFL news and say this on an article from profootballweekly.com

All signs point to the Eagles moving on from LB Ernie Sims(notes). Although he was a physical hitter at times last season, he wasn't consistent enough — especially down the stretch — to bring back as a starter.

It looks like this just proves what we all knew when the three way trade with the Eagles and Broncos happened. Detroit got the best end of this deal by far.

Detroit got a good pass catching tight end and unloaded a LB that was constantly overrunning plays and out of possition

Philadelphia  got a LB that they don't appear to be very happy with and a seventh round pick that turned into what could be their new starting middle LB

Denver got a 5th round pick that turned into Perrish Cox. Cox may be a decent talent, but he's been an off the field headache for Denver. Also, since Denver was so confident with Cox, they traded Alphonso Smith to us for Dan Gronkowski (who a good deal of us actually liked, but was the least talented of the three Gronk brothers).

I think this was a Mayhew special all around...

I got nothing against Ernie

I acutally flipped when we traded him. Obviously we came out very well but I wish Ernie luck hope he can land somewere and have a good career.

I'd laugh so hard if Mayhew signed him back.

We got Tony Scheffler for a 5th round pick that basically netted us Alphonso Smith. Wins all around.

Actually, it got us Tony Scheffler and Lawrence Jackson

Philadelphia sent their 5th-round pick to Denver. Denver sent us Scheffler and a 7th-round pick (220 overall in 2010). We traded this new 7th-round pick in 2010 to Philadelphia on draft day for a 2011 sixth-round pick, which we later sent to Seattle for LoJack.

So, essentially, Mayhew turned Ernie Sims into Lawrence Jackson and Tony Scheffler.

I’d call that a good trade so far, and it’s only going to look better over the next few years.

Love me some Phonz

but… let us not forget that we have Eric Berry who played well in Game 1 before his injury.

Coaches seem to be pretty high on him and I loved what I saw from him in the preseason and week 1…

yeah, it'd be sweet if Mayhew could somehow turn Aaron Berry into Aaron Curry and Eric Berry

and while he’s at it, make some trades to move Bryant Johnson for Dez Bryant and Andre Johnson

the Gronk Phonz trade

probably would’t have happened if they hadn’t drafted Perrish Cox with the 5th rounder they got from Philly…good stuff

Lol come on, I saw it coming that previous January

read about a brah having a conversation with a scout at a bar on some forum. On top of that, the fact that anyone who has ever delivered a pizza to Sims knows he doesn’t tip well and smokes a lot of weed.
 Says something about his character.

I was surprised when Sims was gone ...

But I assumed I know less than Mayhew .. and since it’s not Millen .. It can’t be that bad :)

I was just surprised to learn that Sims was considered expendable and didn’t realize the Lions valued him this low .. but I honestly trusted the FO …

After the last season, my trust has turned into more of the blind variety .. they will screw up some one day, but so far so good …

On a side note, I hated it when WCF didn’t fire everyone else with Millen … I was so wrong abt that

And there we go..

Unfortunate for him, I always thought he had some potential.

Re-sign him!

He’s definitely got talent, and he could compete with the rest of the mess that is outside linebacker.

Oh Yeah!!!

I was never very high on Sims after his rookie season

I felt that Ernie did well in his rookie year but I expected him to continue working on his game and improving his play. That never happened. In fact, I feel that Sims actually got worse instead of better. While I don’t have anything against Ernie Sims, I did not feel he was a starting caliber linebacker and welcomed the trade when I heard about it.

In a way it is too bad that Ernie did not work out better for the Eagles. Situations like this will make it harder for Mayhew to pull off similar deals in the future. Once bitten, twice shy, is in effect here.
