Draft Day

Many people don't think Prince Amukamara will be around by the time the Lions' pick comes up. Mel Kiper has them taking offensive tackle Tyron Smith, from USC. I think it's obvious they need help at CB and OLB the most. I'm not 100% convinced they need a OT in the first round. They were tied for 6th in the NFL last year in sacks given up. I know Backus is getting older but he actually may have had his best year as a Detroit Lion last year. I think if Amukamara is gone then the Lions should trade down and possibly pick up CB Jimmy Smith a little bit later in the round. However, if they choose to keep the pick and take Smith, I won't be completely mad about the pick. I think he will definitely be a good OT in the NFL. I think the draft is deep enough with solid OLB that they can get a good one in the 2nd,3rd,or 4th rounds. I think Mason Foster out of Washington or Bruce Carter out of North Carolina would be good picks to take in the middle rounds and could come in right away and play. I especially like Foster, he had a monster week at the senior bowl.

But I suppose a new CBA needs to get figured out first before I get too far ahead of myself. This would be the luck of the Detroit Lions. Just when the team is getting good and fans have something to be excited about, we have a lockout!!
