Wrapping Up The 2011 NFL Combine

Running back Owen Marecic of Stanford runs the 40-yard dash during the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The 2011 NFL Combine has been over for a few days now and most of the focus seems to have temporarily moved from draft evaluation to which players are being tendered. With all of the news that came out yesterday about tenders and other roster moves, my plans to wrap up the combine got put on the back burner, so I realize this is a bit late. Even so, I want to take a chance to wrap up the news and notes from Indy before we fully move on to other things.

  • The results from the top performers at the combine were tracked on Pride of Detroit. Here are links to each day's results: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. There were also two other posts focusing specifically on linebackers and cornerbacks, as well as one on SB Nation Detroit about how players from Michigan colleges performed in Indianapolis.
  • POD also tracked which players the Lions met with at the NFL Combine. (Note: This list was not meant to be comprehensive, as we don't know all of the players the Lions met with. It simply was meant to let you know what has been reported about the Lions' meetings.)
  • Speaking of player meetings, it was originally reported that Central Michigan linebacker Nick Bellore met with the Lions at the combine. As it turns out, that meeting did not happen. Speaking to Central Michigan Life, he said, "To be honest with you, I probably met with every team in the NFL except for the Lions." Bellore did confirm that he met with the Lions at the East-West Shrine Game.
  • The final piece of news from the combine I want to pass along is that Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones went through all of the drills with a fracture in his foot. He ran a 4.39 40-yard dash despite having a bad foot, and he will now have surgery on it tomorrow. After the operation, he will spend eight weeks rehabbing the injury.
