My first pick may be considered a significant reach, but after the combines and extensive film study this guy shot up my bigboard from what I first thought would be a player drafted with a high 2nd round pick. I think I know how Schwartz felt when he was viewing Beenie Wells film and noticed DeAndre Levy, and decided to take a closer look. The more film I vewed of this player the more his stock rose. I think between now and the draft a few of the so called draft experts will see what I saw and start slotting him higher in their mocks. So without further adue, with the 13th pick in the NFL 2011 draft the Detroit Lions select...............
ALDON SMITH DE/OLB, Missouri
WHO?????
Smith is a Hybrid player viewed as a player better suited as an OLB in a 3-4 scheme or a DE in a 4-3.
A future replacement for KVB who can start on the special teams and be moved around by Gunny to utilize his skills in significant spot duty on defense. This guy will earn plenty of playing time.
2nd Rnd Jonathan Baldwin WR Pittsburg The Lions need to dump BJ and his salary. A player Stafford can build a confort level with for years to come.
3rd Rnd Mason Foster OLB Washington
^^^^^ If Bruce Carter is still available beginning the day of the 3rd Rnd I'd trade next years 2nd and draft him with the first pick in the 3rd.
4th Rnd John Moffit Wisconsin I would be ecstatic if he falls this far on draft day.
5th Rnd Kevin Kowalski Center Toledo a future replacement for Dom to develop.
Actually with the moves the Lions made I think they seem satisfied with their CB situation, After Peterson and Prince I see no players in this draft who would be an upgrade over Pratt, Berry, or the Prince already on the roster. I think they may bring in another vet FA as insurance.
Also the FA market is deep enough to find a compliment to Best, MoMo, Logan, Felton in the backfield.
For those of you interested Akeem Ayers fell to the top of the 2nd Rnd on my bigboard I watched plenty of film and he just didn't have the "IT" factor I look for. OK let me have it fella's and please donate to "The Wayne Fontes Cigar Fund" P.C.P will bring fear in the eyes of opposing offenses in 2011 mark my words.
