I read about the picks the 6 writers in USA Today predicted to the Lions. I guess as much as I am completely against it, I have to get comfortable with the fact that we are probably going to take an offensive tackle.
There wasn't really much consistency with the predictions although I think a few of the picks were way off. I do not think we will be taking anybody from Colorado at #13. If we somehow traded down for an additional pick then I could see it but Nate Solder or Jimmy Smith at this point is way too high at #13.
I'm liking Tyron Smith right now, the guy looks and moves extremely athletic for an OT and that is something we will need to protect Stafford. Notice how the blocks Bakus always has trouble with is stopping the DE that's penetrating to the outside and comes in (Julius Peppers) and Jeff either gets the holding call or completely misses him... then again who knows how Godsler will play this year too.
As much as it eats at me, I think the only way the Lions go defensive is if Prince Amukamara falls down to that spot. Everybody wants a shut down corner these days that I find it hard to believe that anyone higher than us will pass on him if they have the chance. Now that we have our 6th pick back; I sincerely hope that we spend some picks on defense. Remember, we have too many holes on defensive and we cannot sign any free agents. I still DO NOT think it's wise to draft anybody in the first 2 rounds if we are not looking for an immediate impact. Our Offensive line is a lot better than it has been in recent years. Our defence is good but we have two OLB positions wide open... that cannot be addressed in the 4th round!
