6'1- 243 LBs
Thats right fullback and inside linebacker. To me this pick screams Martin Mayhew level versatilty. No offense to Jerome Felton but we need a true NFL fullback. To tweak the words of Jim Schwartz I think it's time we replace Corey Schlesinger. Owen Marecic is built like a truck I love the physicality of this guy. He fits in with Pettigrew as a throwback style player as a true lead blocker and special teams player. A two way starter at Stanford as an ILB and FB so he greatley increases depth. Owen is a master of the little things. He won't shock you with any abillity but he does the jobs that wins games on both sides of the ball. A hard hitter weather he lines up behind the QB or the DT this guy can lay the wood. A great pass blocker and eliminates defenders in the run game. Excels at blitz pickups and has a very high football IQ. Tremendous work ethic with great intangibles for both of his positions. Wraps up tackles effectivley and is an instintive defender.
Owen has limited range and not much of an athlete but he will play with heart and maximize his talent. Marginal speed and lateral agillity and only a short yard runner. Little experince as a reciver but chances are he won't see many in Linehans offense anyways. Average at best hands and uncomfortable running routes.
Likley a 5th or 6th round pick this guys is a true fullback. Something many of us have clamored for this offseason. Nothing against Felton but it seems as the chances he has been give has lacked effectivness carrying the ball. He also lacks the size to clear the big guys which I feel is why he is used so little. Owen is a late pick but I think adds a much needed dynamic to our run game. I love the old school big guys and with experice as a inside linebacker he also adds more depth at that postion. I think this is the type of player the Lions could easily fall in love with the back of his jersey might just have to say BEAST. I really think he could make Best an even larger threat and still add protection to Stafford. Lock this guy in!
