We interrupt our 2011 NFL Draft coverage to bring you some great news involving a player already on the Detroit Lions. Quarterback Matthew Stafford said on Twitter today that he not only worked out with Calvin Johnson and Chad Ochocinco, but he also threw passes to them. Here is the tweet:

Stafford has seemingly been progressing nicely this offseason since having shoulder surgery. The fact that he is now getting to throw passes to Calvin Johnson is very good to hear. Stafford and Johnson need to be on the same page next season, and with organized team activities not taking place, it's important for them to work out together on their own. Clearly both of them realize this, and having another big-time WR in Ochocinco there to throw passes to can't hurt either.

don’t think he’d go quietly sitting in that place on the depth chart. Not to say he wouldn’t be entertainment, and I bet Burleson and him would have fun with it, but there could be some attention issues if we didn’t run 3 WR sets ALL the time! just saying… seriously though, he can come aboard and I’d be happy (as long as we don’t get another tampering charge)!

Yeah, Chad would open up the top of the defense
and that would create more space for Pettigrew or Scheff in the seams. With the LBs and Nickel having to cover those intermediate and long routes, Best should have more room initially to get up to gear, make people miss and the rest writes itself…t’would be sick!

Do all the crazy antics you want, as long as you back them up. The problem last season was he wasn’t backing them up.
Dunno how much truth there is to it
But supposedly the reason Palmer wants out is because T. O. and Chad were freelancing a lot and not following the routes they should have been. Supposedly Carson was a lot happier with the younger receivers who actually listened and ran the right routes.

DETROIT — Detroit police say Denver Broncos defensive end Jason Hunter has been stabbed and taken to a local hospital.
Officer Dan Donakowski says Hunter was stabbed Wednesday, but didn’t have any additional information, including where the incident took place, who was responsible and Hunter’s condition. The hospital wasn’t disclosed.
Hunter is a five-year pro who also has played for the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
The stabbing comes only days after police in Florida said Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall, a former Bronco, was stabbed with a kitchen knife by his wife.

Yeh, he's been distinctly absent from the team's activities during the lockout.
Both Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour conducted offseason workouts and Chad wasn’t even mentioned as invited to them. I think Palmer Lite mentioned him being gone, Marvin’s pretty much said he wants him gone even without outright saying it. Reading between the lines, Chad’s gone.
Sucks, because he’s probably one of the best Bengals ever to put on stripes, but, well…

I have been trying to figure out why for the last two years. Not that Dom does not have some great qualities, but he is nowhere near the 5th best center in the league, hell he was not even when he signed this deal. Hopefully they move on from him this year. Nothing personal against Dom, I just think they can do a lot better on the field with one of the top centers in the draft.

But after the last few seasons Chad has mellowed quiet a bit. And especially after last season with him playing second fiddle to T.O. I thought that was going to be a all out blood bath between him and T.O., but Chad even with HIS QB throwing to T.O. more than him kept himself in check. I think Chad could and will work out if he decides to come to Motown.I’m afraid that Nate might feel a little bit displaced but we all think that he is truly a slot WR who would excel and have his most productive year ever if he was the #3.

With Chad on this roster as well, he may not have the over the top speed he once had, but he is a better route runner than he use to be and he does have some pretty good hands when the ball is actually thrown to him…… It wouldn’t cost as much as you all think it would either. Chad would find himself in heaven with Stafford throwing him the ball. I bet he hasn’t had a guy that could get him the ball deep like Staff can in his entire career. All it would take is a couple deep bombs to Ochocinco in the early season to seriously take the top off the opposing defense. A quarterback like Stafford could make Ochocinco relevant as an impact player for a couple more years, and he would love that.
I just hope that Chad Johnson would understand Detroit is a city where his antics would have to be in context. I don’t think Detroiters would mind him being colorful. If he does it the right way the fans would eat it up. He just has to do it in a way that promotes the team instead of just promoting himself.
