Mayhew the Lawyer - Another draft theory

So the picks that came out yesterday has some head scratching going on.  Even if you like the picks there were position of need players that were highly rated that we passed up (ex Brandon Harris).  While the draft was going on there was this other issue that news was also coming out about - the stay that was approved locking out the players again.  Mayhew realizes that these legal issues may drag on and on... Perhaps there was another draft theory that Mayhew used instead of BPA or Position of Need.

Introducing: BPA at a Position of Need that can still make an impact this year incase there is no off-season...

Mayhew is a lawyer and may well realize that with all this legal stuff happening the off season is very much in jeopardy.  The news yesterday only will make this process longer.

Each pick is still a position of need to have a complete team, just not the biggest need.   Each pick can be argued was BPA (Fairley & Leshoure) or at risk of a desired selection being picked soon (Young to StL - also Fairly to StL).

We have talked on end about how difficult the CB NFL position is to learn.  The LB position in our defense also has a high learning curve of the play book.  Our picks on the other hand can be taught Failey (sorry could not resist) easily:

  • Fairley: You only need to take care of one gap.  Just attack the ball
  • Young: Go (and please, please, please catch)
  • Leshoure: Take the ball up the middle for short yards - we'll teach you more later.

Each draft pick we made we have experienced players ahead of our selections and are complementary roles to those experienced players to learn from.

Crazy? or crazy like a fox?
