Last week, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora spoke with some general managers from around the NFL to get their take on how the 2011 NFL Draft played out. La Canfora got their opinions on specific picks and how specific teams did during this year's draft.
La Canfora characterized the Lions' draft as being "somewhat divisive." The reason for that is because one GM said that "Detroit took three guys with legit character alerts." The GM, who is unnamed, was referring to Detroit taking Nick Fairley, Titus Young and Mikel Leshoure, who had past character concerns in their college days.
The interesting thing is that these character concerns might be why the players' stock dropped a bit, allowing the Lions to select them when they did. In fact, another also unnamed GM said this: "Their first three players are all first-round talents." This GM ranked the Lions in the top three of the NFL for the best drafts of 2011.
Character concerns or not, it's obvious the Lions added a lot of talent over a two-day span in late April.
