News And Notes From Day 3 Of Lions Workouts
The Detroit Lions continued their unofficial team workouts on Wednesday. Plans call for them to work out on Thursday as well. At that point they will call it a week and go back to working out on their own. If the lockout continues they could get together again in June, but I don't believe a specific date has been set just yet.
Here is a rundown of news from today's workout:
- Dominic Raiola, Titus Young and Cliff Avril were not at today's workout, according to Chris McCosky. Matthew Stafford was not there at the time of McCosky's tweet, but he showed up shortly after.
- Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson are both enjoying their time off due to the lockout. It's not often NFL players get to just sit back and relax for most of the offseason, so they are definitely embracing it.
- Jason Fox expects to compete for a starting job in 2011 now that he is actually healthy. Fox had a knee injury and said he was "never 100 percent healthy" last year.
- Tom Leyden recorded videos of interviews with Nate Burleson, Kyle Vanden Bosch and Matthew Stafford.
- Dre Bly attended today's workout because he said it is "better than going up to Lifetime (Fitness) to work out with a trainer and dealing with the activity going on around the gym -- and I have to deal with answering questions all the time about football and stuff like that."

I don't think it's a reach for Fox to compete
Weather it be a tackle or a gaurd I can easily see him on the starting line come kickoff.

I agree as well...
I would love him to slide into RG

Fox is coming for someones job and i can see him actually being a starter before to long.
I was very high on this pick last year and i cant wait to see him fully healthy and going full tilt.

Yeah I liked him coming out of The U
I think for the long haul we got a huge value with that pick.

Major value...
B4 his injury was projected as a 1st to 2nd round prospect, so i was pretty happy to see him fall to us in the 4th.
I think he has a nice chance of bumping Gos this year and giving 100%. Its something about the kids that come out of the U they just all seem to do really well in the pros.

Thats for sure
I can see Fox and Gos playing. I think of the tackles could end up playing gaurd. Gosder def has the strength and attitude to play inside but I think Fox is bigger.

I think Gos and Fox are too tall for Guard

Any news about Leshoure?
I'm glad they made Flintstone's vitamins because I used to watch The Flintstones and go, "Man I bet you if I ate that dude, I would be healthy."
I believe he's still out west
Young went out there today

I feel like we have too many solid/project tackles
Never thought I would say that.
Backus
Gosder
Hilliard
Fox
Culbreath
If we put Culbreath on the PS I can guarantee he’ll be gone ala Murtha a few years ago. Can we keep 5 tackles? If not, who moves to guard?

I look for Fox or Culbreath to possibly be a gaurd
Perhaps Gandy or someone else will be moved and we keep the tackles.

Dre Bly? Who's that?
Lol what are his chances of making the team?

Say what you want
I have and will always like Dre Bly. I just like the fact that we dont need him. I think he should have been on the team last year longer if not the whole time but I have alot of confidence in Vasher, Pratt, Williams, Houston, Smith, Prince and BERRY. IMO they are all underrated and will surprise aot of people this year i healthy.

Not that good....
and i was one of the biggest supporters of bringing Bly on last year. I would love to see him in camp with us to at least beable to compete as well as share his knowledge of the game with Smith Berry and Houston.

The Lions Want It!
After googling the NFL Player Workout for the Divisional Rivials. 8 Bears Players were practicing as of today (All Offense). 0 Vikings and 0 Packers are working out at all. It would seem that Detroit WANTS it far more than those other 3 teams. That could be an excellent sign of future success. We are HUNGRY after all.

We are defiantly hungrier than the 3 others.
Looking at the other teams boards and I found this on the Packers:

One guy tried to play it off.
I think the player workouts are more of a PR move by the players
They seem to not care if the Packers do or don’t, they just think because they won the Super Bowl they will be able to show up and dominate still.
http://www.dailynorseman.com/2011/5/18/2177602/ponder-sets-up-workouts-with-harvin-rice
This is good for Minnesota, their rookie QB working with his top 2 targets but that’s it as far as I can find on the Norseman.
At least someone over there has the right idea:
Now if only AP would stop working out with that head case Vince Young and hook up with these guys, and bring a few extras with him like Gerhart, Jaymar, Camarillo, the O-line, Shank and Rudolph would be welcome too
I have to agree that it would be beter for Ponder if he had more of his offense.
At WCG I don’t see anything about any of the 8 you mentioned, so they don’t seem to care if their guys are or aren’t working out.
We are looking like the most game ready as of right now with all the workouts our guys have out in together.

A Bears fan on Ndamukong Suh+Nick Fairley- "This sort of makes me want to kick myself in the groin. If he plays to his potential this line is going to be all kinds of nightmare for the Bears"
almost needless to say how impressive that is
I pretty much would have guessed that minny couldnt give two hoots in hell, that teams a mess…Bears are still on life support from the championship game…. but the Pack?? wow…thats just great news. A hungry Pack is to be respected. A fat and happy Pack can be had…repeatedly. I thinks its beyond my memory of a Detroit team that shows every indication of making this serious a run at it. These guys are dotting the i’s and crossing the T’s.

Let’s hope Fox can show us something then.
