Caleb Campbell, A Lion Among Men!

Calebcampbellbig_medium

via www.footballnewsnow.com

Caleb Campbell was drafted by Detroit in 2008 and made his NFL debut in 2010. He’ll be 27 in September, and while other West Point peers have gone a different direction, Campbell believes the lockout has leveled the playing field for a hard worker trying to prove he’s a cadet no more.  This guy is the Epitome of Detroit Lions Football.  Always fighting.  Never giving up.  Keeps on pushing.  Even when he's down, he gets back up.  Please read the linked article about Caleb Campbell.

The Man is on the Cusp....

Just being a Vet and knowing some of what he’s been through, I want him to succeed. It’s a good sign he was signed to the active roster towards the end of last season and I’m glad he wasn’t snatched from our Practice Squad.
I really do have full faith and confidence his work ethic will help him make the final roster this year, if anything, as a Special Teamer. Especially if Pain Train remains on IR.
In light of the lockout, I’m not sure it levels the playing field or not. I believe it actually hurts the developing players because they aren’t receiving the necessary coaching to improve their techniques making them the best player possible. Strength and conditioning training along with team workouts is one thing…having that position coach keeping his critical eye on you is something completely different.
From a military point of view, that would be like my Team Leaders (3 year Sergeants) running the Soldiers through drills without their Squad Leaders (avg. 7 year Staff Sergeants) or Platoon Sergeant (avg. 12 year Sergeant First Class) present to make on the spot corrections and show what “right” looks like. That’s not saying the Team Leaders are not capable leaders (KVB, Staff, Dom, Hansen)…but they aren’t the experts. Without the Subject Matter Experts…the Coaches, only mediocre results can be expected and not the fine tuned killing machine desired to be successful on the field of combat.

Let us hope that CC is in touch with the unit leaders and watching tape tape and more tape

Ive no doubt the man has the strength and stamina of a Kentucky thoroughbred. What going to make or break him is how fast he can learn to make those reads and react properly. Tape, tape and more tape.

I am really pulling for Caleb

I think he has a 50/50 chance of making the final roster this season. If he sticks with the big squad instead of the practice squad, I believe he will get some chances just because Gunny will like a kid that works as hard as Caleb does to make it.

I think Caleb is one of those guys you just can't cut

His work ethic and attitude forces you to keep him around. I think he will continue to develop and potentialy be a 2nd string maybe even 1st string linebacker. I’d love to see Caleb in the starting lineup. If he can contibute on special teams this year he will def make the 53 man roster.

I hopin' that's the case too...

I’m thinkin’ his odds are better than 50/50 just for the work ethic alone. I mean, we drafted a LB project who seems expected to make an impact on SPTMs…With some of our up and comers workin’ to get their shot on the A-Team, competition should be fierce and some of those veteran “Sole” Special Teamers may find themselves on the practice squad or just plain cut to make room for the young guns who proved themselves ready to step up. If CC makes the final cut into our LB rotation…that’s even better!

I think he can be useful

Starter? Probably not, but if he can make his mark and do his job, then I’m fine.
