a welcome thread for lojack

i invited as many lions players as i could find on twitter to come to "prideofdetroit" and chat it up with the best fans anywhere. and i got a tweet from LoJack asking if he would need to set up an account. so he must be thinking about coming here to talk with us. so i figured i would start this thread as a place for him to post if he joins, and we would be able to find him also. here's hoping he drops by for a visit with us all, i really like him on twitter, very cool with the fans, and i think you would all like talking with him. so,  LoJack, this thread's for you, welcome.

Lawrence looks like he could be a great "comeback" story in the NFL.

A former first round pick who found himself on the outs with his original team, gets traded, and has to wait until week ten to get a chance to show what he can do. A great lesson in perseverance, for everyone, not just football players.

Welcome to Detroit. Hope to see you play for a long time here.

"Filling a need doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a good player," said Schwartz. "It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that best fits; it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that’s better than what you have already."

I just can't wait until we Seattle, whenever that will be!

Well, I just can’t wait until we play any game again lol!

So who’s with me in thinking Lawjack wins the starting gig by mid season at the latest? That is on the right. I love what KVB brings but I think at this point he’s best with more limited snaps to stay fresh. I’m sure he’d be going bonkers having to stay on the sideline more tho. Then again with what seemed like Lawjack performing better on the left in Seattle I’m curious if he would prefer to be on that side only.

Haven’t had the best of Thanksgiving game memories…hopefully that changes this year.

RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.

AWESOME to see you here!

Been a fan off and on (of football in generall too) since the early 70s. Favorite Thanksgiving memories have to be the sack fest(s) of Lynn Dickey (GB). As it so happens, you maulers (dis-assembly line!) are going to have a great chance to make similar (or better!) memories for us all this year by smearing Rodgers around Ford Field! He’s a tough cookie but I have a lot of faith the dis-assembly line will leave a bad taste in Rodgers mouth… turf!

Shocking pick we all thought Mayhew might go corner with Prince. Exciting addition to the D line though. Any thoughts on our new Defensive tackle?

ya gotta love it

I like his college play better than that of last years 2nd DT Gerald McCoy. It’s amazing to me we have him next to Suh!!

You sir, are playing on a line that likely could go down as one of the best ever. I hope you keep your head on straight, embrace every moment of this, and seize this time to shine. You’ve shown you have everything it takes to be worthy of this opportunity, and I’m confident you’ll make the most of it!!

LJ was one of the first. When Martin steals a player of great talent in a onesided trade. Alphonso was also the product of someone being Mayhew’d.

Yup, I figured as much...I just wanted to hear how serious an effort players put into the recruiting

of a free agent that they really want on the team. Or is it all about the bucks with them, and they advise a FA to just go follow the money.

And be like “oh so when you coming to [INSERT CITY]?” and stuff like that. At the end of the day, no one’s going to a team just because some other player put in an endorsement, because every team has players that want X big free agent to come to their town.

how would you guys feel about organizing our tweets? not that we should flood any one players inbox, but I bet if a single player got 4 or 5 tweets with some version of “Come to PoD!”, we might bet some traction. We could even direct them to Sean and set up these “chats” a day or two in advance so we don’t miss out!

I think having one person doing the invites is more than sufficient.

These guys are people just like you and me. If on occasion we have one of the stop by and say hello, chat it up a bit and lend us his ear that is amazing.

I would hate to have an issue evolve where we actually turn players off with incessant invites to the POD, even if they are spread out. If they wanna join us fantastic, if they don’t, that is cool too.

Great Job Yooper!

I don’t post very much, but I just had to give my thumbs-up to getting LoJack on board.

As for LoJack’s question, despite growing up a mere 5 miles from the Silverdome, I’m pretty sure I never have attended a Turkey Day game. I just remember watching at home and telling Mom we weren’t ready to eat until the Lions game was over.

That said, the best game I ever attended was when they beat Parcells & the Jets 13-10 in December, 1997. I have NEVER heard a louder (when Barry broke 2,000 yards) or quieter (when Reggie Brown lay motionless on the turf) sold-out stadium in my life.

by DenverLion on May 31, 2011 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

Reggie Brown

What a sad deal that was. Although he lost his career that day he at least was not paralyzed and went on to make a decent life for himself and his family. No telling how good he could’ve become. I felt he was on the way to stardom, perhaps superstar status.

Before that of course was the Mike Utley injury who was paralyzed and then the following offseason 3rd year All Pro guard Eric Andolsek dies as a result of weeding his lawn and getting run over by a semi truck. Not all football memories are good
I guess the scores notwithstanding. Eric, Reggie, and Mike I salute you.

Let’s all hope you continue your ascent to the upper eschelon of DE’s in the league and help us win a Superbowl. I have been a fan since 1974 when I was 10 years old, so I have waited a long time. Mr. Mayhew has proven to have a gift of signing underappreciated players who fit in the Jim Schwartz system. You are with a team that has long standing tradition and history with a passionate fan base eager to win. We are all honored to have you here, sir.

can I ask what you think about the Ohio State situation?

and do you think any of those guys might be in a supplemental draft?

Being a true Maize and BLUE boy here. . . .

My answer is going to be very bias. I think they have been bending the rules for over a decade, academically and in other ways. I am surprised that it took the NCAA this long to actually catch up with all of the tom foolery that has been going around down in Columbus since Tressel took over. I mean you have a coach in Tres who was already caught at a lesser school and you catch him once, so what is his punishment for breaking the rules? Oh we will let you go to a NCAA power house school and let you do it again. Any school USC OSU the Florida schools in the 80’s and 90’s that can stay on top with top athletes coming in year after year who are not known for being the most intelligent to begin with is doing some serious covering up. . I mean come on USC was so damn obvious it was bending rules for all these Blue Chippers year after year after year, and NO ONE thought that was odd. OSU the same thing, you can’t sit there and think that all the players that were going to these schools were doing so because they thought it was going to get them a good education, ESPECIALLY in OSU’s case. They were paying people off it wasn’t that hid from the common fan, but for some reason the NCAA had a hard time finding out the facts until after it was too late to really do anything about it. It would be 1 thing if all these Blue Chippers were from the state that they played in, but they were not they were from all over the country for the most part and it was very easy to see for me but hey I’m just a common fan. I mean a guy from Texas that wants to go play at OSU . . . .REALLY you wouldn’t want to play in state for 1 of the teams there? Oh I guess he just wanted to play in the cold weather instead of a nice warm climate in the fall.

word out here in vegas blames the press for being so cozy with the the school

the radio keeps harping on how these big schools in little towns get away with murder because the local newspapers and tv stations are all filled with alums, who look the other way at the very least.

Makes sense.

I've been dying to ask any one of you D-line this question.

What is it like to get a thumper on a QB or RB. . .I mean is it a pure adrenalin rush???I know what it does for us fans but I have always wondered if it JACKS you guys up as much as us.

Yps. . . Are you good at writing????

I am about to embark on a series of post inspired by Profiler’s Lions legends and I am looking for someone to re-write the finished product. I’ll do the leg work but I AM NOT GOOD AT WRITING, I’ve never hid that around here and I think I am 1 of the few who can read DET 32’s posts if that says anything, but I need a co-writer real badly. I was going to ask Smurf or Tuff but they have not been around that much the last few days. I thought about asking Sean but he is a busy boy with all that he does on a daily basis around here, so I can’t really ask him to write up more articles. I just need someone who is good at writing.

ohh dude, yeah I suppose, a little mebbe

sounds like you want an editor, more than a writer. Which would be more up my alley. But sure bro, if you want me I’m yours. Take this over to the open thread?

Tuff and Smurf are one and the same.

You mean they are 1 in the same because they are brothers?

Or did Smurf pull one over on me. I asked him that only a few weeks ago and Smurf said that they were brothers from a BIG family.

LOL, they disappear in tandem, and show up together.

Their the alter egos of the same person. The writing style is too similar.
