I'm sure many of you have already read the Freep's article about "9 Grades for the Draft". For those of you who are still uncertain about how well the Leo's chose their draftees, the draft math puts them at the top of the class! I've finished the Freep's GPA's for the top students according to that article and, as many pundits have said, the Lions grade out the best.
The Free Press used the grades for each team from 9 sources: ESPN, CBS Sports, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, NFL.com, SI, The Sporting News, USA Today, and Yahoo. I removed the homers' and the haters' (the best and worst) grades and averaged the remaining 7 grades using the Four Point grading scale used in schools where A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, etc.
The Lions got a 3.70 GPA (A-) to lead all teams. Tampa Bay was next at 3.66, followed by Green Bay at 3.43, and Cincy and the Browns both at 3.39.
I seriously hope no one is still questioning the Fairley pick. His addition gave birth to what a blogger on another site named the "Detroit Disassembly Line" (I love that nickname). As is being reported, Young was seriously considered by teams at the end of Round 1 and the Rams would probably taken him with the next pick if we hadn't. (Boy, the Rams must've been pissed at missing out on both Fairley and Young by one pick each). And Leshoure was projected in the late first to mid-second round. All were great value picks and both seconds plugged gaping holes. My only concern is that both Young and Leshoure missed college games due to suspensions from their respective teams. Maybe 'character concerns' don't really throw Mayhew as much as we thought they did.
BTW, has anyone else noticed that if the 'w' in Mayhew were to fall over and become an 'm' then Mayhew becomes Mayhem?
