Just say no.

Plaxico Burress gets out of prison today. I say no and so should you.

Star-divide

I have nothing against Plax, I just don't think we need him. We have enough depth at receiver. Calvin is #1, Nate is #2, Titus should be #3, Logan will make the team and most likely be #4. The 5th spot will be fought for by D Will, Tim Toone, Mike Moore, BJ and/or anyone else brought into camp. I just don't see Plax as an option but I'm sure there are a couple of you that think he should be. I just had to get this out there today because I know his name was going to come up sometime today anyway.

I don't think you have to worry about it Enforcer.

I really doubt the Lions would go anywhere near this guy. He is, what?…..thirty-four years old?

Just not an investment that I think the Lions will make.

I'm not worried about it happening.

Just worried about someone mentioning it here. Anytime anyone is available someone decides we need said person. Be it, Talib, Haynesworth, Pryor, it happens with everyone, that’s all this is about.

Haynesworth is available!!!!!!??????!!!!! STOP THE PRESSES!!!!

Pardon me while I close my office door and write a FanPost. Just kidding.

yes cause there a lot of people who post on this site

and it’s just chances are that someone will think someone is so great that the lions need him and are compelled to write a fanpost. It’s the same with the NFL. 30 or 31 GMs may think that a player (Haynesworth, Pryor, or whomever) is a weirdo and not worth a single penny, but it only takes one GM to fall in love with the player and think that he needs him on his team and give him 100 million over 7 years.

yeah say no to plax.

If you want a guy who has the potential to be a problem in the locker room, Terrelle Pryor is a decade and a half younger….

I’ll shut up about Pryor now.

I'm also not worried about how he would be in the locker room.

We just don’t need another veteran receiver.

the big question

for Pryor is would he be able to take a pay cut? Reggie Bush was able to, but he’s the exception to the rule…

PlaxiNO

We’ve already had too many receivers that have shot themselves in the foot, we don’t need one that shot himself in the leg.

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

I don't see why not...

Sure we don’t have any need for him, but I don’t see the harm in letting him compete for a spot. (if we can get him cheap, of course, which I think is a given) I wouldn’t go crazy or anything, but I’d rather have him than Derrick Williams. There’s no question the guy is (was) talented. I don’t see why the Lions should turn away talent. Worst case scenario, it’s another Bly situation and he gets cut.

Of course, I also agree with you guys – there’s no way it happens.

PS- (a bit off topic) Is Delmas serious about wanting Bly back? How could he come back a year out of football and make a team that is better than it was when it cut him? Don’t get me wrong, if he can compete, I’m all for it. What I’m asking is, CAN he compete? Or do you think Delmas was just blowing smoke up his a$$, giving the vet some respect?

by UndaDawg on Jun 6, 2011 12:04 PM EDT reply actions

Could be a little of both.

He may be able to compete for a roster spot but probably not starting spot. Louis may just be showing him respect for what he has done previously.

I see no reason what so ever

why they shouldn’t bring him in. He would come cheap he isn’t a problem in the lockerroom just (was) a knucklehead. He has the size to complement CJ on the outside which leaves both Nate and Titus in the slot on our 4 wide situations. If we really are in the business of strengthening our strengths and just in general adding talent then there is no reason not to bring him in. Who would you rather have him or Derrick Williams?

Maybe you havn't heard, 7-11 ain't hiring convicts...

And neither should we. I know the man has “paid his dues” but I don’t believe this is the direction this team is heading. Plax is 34 years old and has been away from the game for 2 years. This is exactly the kind of culture we don’t want in Detroit regardless of how many leaders we have. You can take a dude out of the ghetto but you cant take the ghetto out of a dude.

by #1lionsfan on Jun 6, 2011 12:38 PM EDT reply actions

Im not even sure how to respond to that comment

No offense but that last part about the ghetto is so far right its scary if you think that way and Im sure i could lay a few good examples of the Ghetto making it just fine after they were out …. but it shouldnt even be a discussion so i wont feed the comment further.

as for the post i ll say yes to Burress only because Even though he’s been locked up for 2 yrs his body will be more like 29-32, 20 months of nothing but staying in shape. He may not be a Vick in terms of youth but even Vick showed he still has MVP potential. Would Plax ever had been probably not but the upside to having him w/ Burelson,Titus,CJ and Logan would out weigh the negatives and further strengthen if an injury would happen. And its already thought that he will be on a very low probably minimum contract w/ incentives.

Someone’s going to give him a chance and i hope he lights it up and becomes that news story this year of redemption …

Dont forget that

He wasn’t convicted for killing someone so just saying we don’t need convicts is an ubsurd statement.

Give em a shot at training camp (if there is one)

No reason as to why we shouldn’t. Besides, if the guy is stupid enough to shoot himself and not check the gun laws in the city he lives in, then he might be stupid enough to sign for pennies on the dollar.

I think someone will give him a little more than the nothing that Detroit would be willing to give him.

I think any team would invite him to training camp, but i think some teams gives him a little pocket change.

I was all about getting Plexiglass a few months ago and I'm still all about having him here.

Again throw his age out the window, for 1: 34 with 2 years of not being pounded on in the NFL thats retreaded tires in my book. 2: he is 6’5" tall and last time I checked there are NO teams with 2 CB’s that could cover both him and Calvin near the endzone. 3: he was a Sparty. . .OK that is reason enough not to have him hear, but an instate product none the same. 4: What do we have that is proven after Calvin and Nate?? We HOPE that Titus will be a good/great 3rd, but we have NOTHING after that. Plexiglass would compete for playing time instantly. 5: He would be what B Johnson was suppose to be when we brought that dead weight in here a few years ago. 1 injury and we have no height at the WR position, and lets face it Megatron has shown that a 16 game schedule is to tough for him to play in every game.Do all of you want our starters at the WR position to be under 6’?? Redzone players we could put out 6’5" plexiglass, 2 TE’s that are 6’5" or taller with Grew and Sheff, and then you have Megatron who is 6’5" or taller. . .Thats a lot of open space for Matt to throw to.

Oh lets not forget about his hands. . .

Plexiglass has better hands than all of our WR’s other than Calvin. That can not be argued PERIOD!

Isn't Logan more of an RB than a WR?

Well, he’s really more of a return specialist than anything (btw, thanks for helping my fantasy team that counts return yardage), but doesn’t he line up in the backfield more than split wide? I haven’t seen as many Lions games as I would like, but it seems like the ones I did see, he was more of a RB than WR.

As far as Plaxico, I could see him helping the Lions, as he would upgrade their 4th & 5th WRs (and possibly 3rd). However, I think he’ll wind up on a team like the Rams or Redskins, where he’ll upgrade their 2nd WR. Those teams just need him more, and will be willing to spend more for him than he’s probably worth (can you say Daniel Snyder?).

If it 3 or 4 years ago

I would take Burress, but not everyone can leave prison a better player than before he went in. If we needed him, I’d make a run at him.
