To make the splash ?

Anyone heard the news about the Jets and what they are willing to do to get back to the championship game and win it? as well as helping lock up the top CB on the market ? .. some of the high dollar players are actually willing to take pay cuts or giving up part of their salaries if need be.

This got me to thinking, Matt was supposed to be the guy the face of the franchise, the only face we usually catch on the highlights when discussing him is of him clinching that shoulder. Suh came in commanded top dollar and performed well even w/ a slight injury becoming that face of the franchise and then some. He has probably made more just from endorsements and sponsors than he makes on the field due to this strong performance as a rookie. Stating that money gave up in contract can be rewarded back through other means especially if they win and those key players have strong performances.

So question is should some of the high dollar players like Stafford and other high dollar vets think about a restructuring of their deal or give up some of their own ? (sorry i got a lot of love for the boy and know he has the potential but he is a good example of getting paid more than he's produced) I also use him as example as Mark Sanchez is what i call his rival for his draft class has already stated he's willing to do whats necessary to help for instance as well as Reevis specifically named as willing to help lock up players using their pay,  this is because they want to win championships. In Detroits case if willing too what they could  give up between them those few million needed to lock up Houston and another quality CB to go along w/ the aggressive pursuit of shoring up the defense.  I think even if they sign one of these LB's its going to be key to resign Houston +1. Not to mention shore up the line w/ some good protection for Stafford.

The Lions are borderline playoffs now, (on paper) if those few key positions needed can be filled and w/ the potential of the team it says they could lock up a strong run in the NFC should they pick up where they left off last year w/ a healthy Stafford and upgrades on both sides of the ball. I know the Lions aren't hurting for cap money but they are getting close and it doesn't hurt if your serious about winning championships. Should this be considered to finish the job and make sure Schwartz gets a solid team he deserves that him and Mayhew have been rebuilding?
