Detroit Lions Sign Quinn Pitcock, Other Free Agents
We have already heard about a number of roster moves made by the Detroit Lions on Friday and earlier this week, and the team confirmed them in a press release that was just sent out. The team also announced quite a few signings we hadn't previously heard about, including the move to add defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock, who retired from the Indianapolis Colts in 2008 after one season in the NFL. He unretired last year and is now being given a chance with the Lions.
Here's the full list of signings/re-signings:
- Lions unrestricted free agents: QB Drew Stanton, OG/C Dylan Gandy, S John Wendling, K Dave Rayner
- Other free agents: WR Rashied Davis, DT Quinn Pitcock, LB Justin Durant, CB Maurice Leggett
- Restricted free agents: FB Jerome Felton, DT Andre Fluellen
- Exclusive-rights free agents: WR Stefan Logan, OT Corey Hilliard, LB Ashlee Palmer, LB Korey Bosworth, LB Caleb Campbell, CB Prince Miller, CB Paul Pratt, S Randy Phillips
The Lions also once again confirmed that WR Bryant Johnson and LB Jordon Dizon have been released, and the team said that OT Jeff Backus and CB Alphonso Smith have been placed on the active/non-football injury list.

I would expect any more signings mean we will start doing some cuts pretty soon. It seems odd but if I were Derrick WIlliams I would be packing my suitcases. BTW the two players on the PUP list mean we can 92 players signed.
Backus and Smith aren't actually on the PUP list

Remember last year?
When the Lions just settled on guys Johnathan Wade, C.C Brown, and Zack Follett to be STARTERS. Remembering that, it’s hard to be disappointed with the moves that the Lions are making so far. Wade was someone that the 1-win Rams didn’t even want as a backup, but he was brought here to be the answer at one of the starting CB spots. Brown was a back-up for the Giants that got pressed into duty for them, was notoriously bad, and then was booed out of town and not signed by anyone until late in the off-season when the Lions realized they needed a starting safety. Nothing against Zack, but he was promoted to the starting OLB spot by default when the Lions didn’t bother to acquire a starting linebacker after trading away Sims. Taking all of that into account, it’s nice to see the Lions addressing the positions of needs this year with legitimate talent… players that other teams were actually interested in, even if it isn’t the biggest names.

?????? huh????
Is that sarcasm? No seriously is that sarcasm? I think the Eagles have had the A++ of the FA period. You get rid of a QB who was going to cost some big money and he had like a small handful of starts, you get DRC and a second round pic. Then you go and get a QB who has a winning record to back up your starter, and get this he plays the same style of game. . . Then you get Babbins was a of the top 10 in sacks last year (I think) Then you add if not the best CB in the game then the second best CB in Nnamdi. . .If they get any kind of DT play they are going to be extremely tough to play against. . . And watch they are some how going to get at least 1 more 2nd round pick when they trade Samuals. They have to have used that extra 3 million on the cap this year.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Their FA season has been stellar
Unmatched in football. Their GM is pulling smoke and mirrors magic tricks (Kolb for a pro bowl CB AND 2nd round pick!).

Any info on Chris Houston?
Is he generating a lot of interest?
Not according to Kowalski
he said when asked about Houston that he just isn’t going to get as much as he wants.
Makes sense
I’m sure his agent is waiting for the panic to set in. He will end up with us in the end.
Kowalski didn't define,
but I am assuming on the open market because Houston made it clear he wanted to test the market. That market got visibly driven down after Joseph and Asomugha went for less. Houston isn’t getting 7-8 anymore. I could see a 4/22ish deal
So.....

Yps,
He was the only CB that played average that year, he wasn’t bad as a lion, I wouldn’t mind him as a last resort kind of CB, maybe in Gunny’s system he can Jam at the line and play tough instead of that off the man crap we played that year.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Well its entirely possible my memories not what it should be
I seem to recall being entirely unhappy about his play. If I recall Brees lit him up for 3 of his 4 tds on opening day. I do remember refering to him as ‘toast’ Buchanon, which is my standard name for poor cornerback play ever since someone coined ‘toast’ Westbrook, back in the day.
