Detroit Lions Claim Hilee Taylor, Put Him On Did Not Report List

According to Pro Football Talk, the Detroit Lions recently put in a roster claim for defensive end Hilee Taylor. Taylor hit the waiver wire after being let go by the Carolina Panthers last Friday, and the Lions were awarded his contract.

The issue right now is Taylor has failed to report to the Lions. Detroit has in turn put him on the reserve/did not report list, which means he doesn't count against the 90-man roster.

Taylor was originally selected by the Panthers in the seventh-round of the 2008 NFL Draft after playing for North Carolina in college. He made the 53-man roster and appeared in 10 games in 2008 and six games in 2009. He didn't put up any significant stats, though. Last year he didn't have any stats because he missed the year with a knee injury.

For the time being the Lions have Taylor's rights. If he reports at some point, he will likely compete for the final spot at defensive end with Willie Young since Turk McBride is now with the Saints.

ummm....why?

there really isn’t one shining spot of brightness about this guys skills that would make anyone say “wow, we need to sign this guy”..I don’t get it…this guy doesn’t deserve his own article haha

by Ryan Hart on Aug 1, 2011 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

likely he is just a cam body... just like in a normal camp year....

…you would get a extra running back to beat down while the defence practices run defence. I am sure his utility is along those lines.. a camp body

by Shankdiddy on Aug 1, 2011 9:17 PM EDT reply actions

i am thinking he is just a guy they want for when we go full pads and they wanna check out Fox or Culbreath...

… let them battle it out since we already know what we have in KVB..Lo Jack….. Willie can’t do all the work with Avril out. .. these tackles need a body to spar with

if they are taking guys like that

Very good point!

That might be why we signed him. That would explain why he didn’t come in. Or he could be hurt and no one knows.

So 32

You were so screaming about LB’rs pre-draft. What do you think about our situation now? I know I get an “I told you so” in on you about wait till FA, but i want your opinion on the group as it stands today. Not just starters either.

we still need a soild back up.. i am fine with carp there...

why or starting core has improved greatly we still not where i wan them to be.. my main problem is levy now.. and st is a bit overrated imo.. but at least our LBs are respectable now not dead last and worse then some cfl teams like last year

we need to keep looking for imprvemnts but this crew should be fine for a year or so

you dont think Levy will be better out on the weak side?

He wont have to worry so much about not being able to get off a block and his speed is good out to the flat or back to the qb. At mike he was jammed too much. Will suits his skill set much better, I think.

Im attributing that to him deciding if his leg was good to go

Cause as a rook he was real good about getting after the ball. I didnt see him get tentative till he got hurt. In the Miami game he started to react more like he did as a rookie, I thought. But we’ll see soon

I’ve been wondering the same from you. We are looking a helluva lot better now. Those draft time worries should be gone by now. What’s up?

see what I started. I wasn't messin with ya cause I was curious.

I think at least 1 of these 3 are going to be PB bound this year. The free running that they are going to do is just going to be sick. I want to say Tulloch but Levy could just explode from the OLB and have some crazy ass Mathews shit for stats. If he’s coming on the blitz and gets a read on the snap count hows a O-lineman going to cover him when Will and KVB are in front of him. . .Durant maybe in the same shape if Avril does sign. . .Which side does Gunny bring the heat with. I know you want that SLB and WSB but in this system it’s left and right not Week side and Strong side.
