I read the short article about the Lions signing Mooney today and I after watching his 15 minute highlight film on his blocks I have a thought.
This guy has awesome size and looks to have a great ability to find the first OCJand hits them with a nice square shot right in the numbers. I used to play full back once upon a time and the guy's technique is extremely impressive. Obviously his size is his biggest eye catcher but if watch the highlight film; all of his hits are perfect. He is lower than his opponent and delivers a big enough shot to make enough time for the runner in the gap.
He isn't "The Terminator" as they called John Conner on the Jets on last years Hard Knocks but this guy really reminds me of Corey back in the day. His three point kind of bothers me a little bit the way his right knee is literally almost to the ground but its I think it's common for blocking backs to that so they can fire off and stay lower.
I think if he plays as well in the NFL as his film showed at Army then he should be able to beat out Felton. Felton is decent FB but I've never really been overly thrilled of him. During pass plays especially, I would personally want the best blocker on the field in the added protection to Stafford and its my prediction that Mooney will win the starting job at the end of camp.
