Just as ESPN's John Clayton predicted yesterday, the Detroit Lions have signed offensive tackle Kirk Chambers. Offensive guard Jeff Maddux was waived/injured to make room on the roster for Chambers.
Chambers came into the NFL in 2004 as a fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns. He appeared in six games during his rookie season and played in 15 more in 2005. He took a year off in 2006 and returned to the league with the Buffalo Bills in 2007. He appeared in all 16 games in each of his first two seasons in Buffalo and played in 14 games the next year. During those three years he made a total of 14 starts.
Chambers was let go by the Bills during last year's final round of roster cuts. The Cincinnati Bengals added him to their roster in November, and now he is headed to Detroit to help with depth at offensive tackle.
Maddux, who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan, hurt his ankle during practice earlier this week.
