The Aaron Maybin question.

So, it appears that the Bills just released former first round pick Aaron Maybin. Maybin was the 11th overal pick of the 2009 draft. He was a pass rushing DE from Penn State. After being drafted by the Bills he was moved to Outside Linebacker. A move that appears to have been a bad idea. Now, it sounds like he fits the square peg in the round hole ideology.

In two years Maybin's stats are as followed; 24 tackles, 0 sacks.

Is it worth taking a look at this guy? With the loss of Turk McBride, do we want to add another DE? At DE (at least in college) he showed he could be effective.

On the roster we currently have. LoJack, Cliff Avril, KVB, Willie Young, Narada Williams, and Keyunta Dawson.  I'm happy with the first 4 I listed, don't see that big of a need to upgrade. However, he could be an upgrade over Willie Young if he can convert back to DE and play as well as he did in college.

Willie Young has looked really good.

And Aaron Maybin has looked like a first round bust. Maybin may have been playing out of position, but suddenly moving back to DE would be a huge problem for him – his weight is down to 228 lbs. No way is he an upgrade over Young.

My comment came out a little more authoritative than I intended.

I may not believe Maybin is an upgrade but, as others suggest, it never hurts to bring guys in for a look. He was highly regarded coming out of college for a reason. And healthy competition is a good thing.

Willie looked great friday night

He was swarming to the QB and just crashing down on the backside every time they ran away from him. He seems to be around the ball all the time.

Pass rushers we got. We need help against the run. If you feel its necessary to make moves on the D line, it seems we should be looking for run support

Even though I agree with the post above...

Putting Maybin on the field next to Young would answer any questions about his ability.

Maybe worth a looksy… even if the kid only lasts a day or 2.

Agree with most

Willie Young looks pretty good, but why not give this dude a chance.

cant say enough about Willie’s performance friday, back-up material though?

Why not?

We seem to love high round picks that bust with their old teams. If he doesn’t pan out, it’s no trouble for us…

He's worth a look

We got the coaching staff to set him straight

And even if we just bring him in for training camp it would cost us anything. He might be able to excell on ST also. Bills are in threat to get Mayhewed.

We could take a look at him

But if a team in serious rebuilding mode like the Bills are willing to cut the dude two years removed from being the 11th overall pick, there’s probably a reason, that being that the dude is probably not that good and/or doesn’t have the work ethic to be a good NFL player. Even the Jets waited a full three years before cutting Vernon Gholston, and they had the talent to not really be affected by it, so it’s very telling that a team as talent-strapped as the Bills are cutting this dude after only two seasons.

Good points, Mo

But I say bring him in anyway. Let our coaches decide. I trust their evaluation skills (nice to be able to finally say that)
That being said, you’re probably right, motown.

By the way.....I've been telling WY about this site and how he's a site favorite here.

Told him to pop in sometime.

He’s not getting to high from last weeks performance and just taking it day by day.
