Detroit Vs CLE
When Colt, meets Suh again!
What are your expectations? What areas of improvement do you want to see?
For myself, I'm interested in the running game. I'm looking for Bell to get on the field before Harrison this week to see what he can do with the #1 O line.... who knows, maybe he has some "Denver" left in him. Aaron Brown should show consistancy and repeat his performance.
As for the passing game... Besides his drops, D. Williams looked fast, crisp and very poised to secure a roster spot... unfortunately, his hands had other plans... If he has a bit more dropsies... he could be gone. But for DW to get the ax... someone has to step up. Toone's story is real nice... but its time for Mr Irrelevant to become relevant. ... and who's this Hughes kid?? and will he show us some more?
On Defense... I want to see the GIF above be performed...hehehe. Love ya, Colt... but a Lion has to eat!
CLE's Running game has to be put in check... and on the backside... I'm looking for a young CB to step up and boot Macdonald.
Discuss, Rant... Get booted from Windy Chitty...
I'll leave you with a couple more SUH moments....

I hope to see Berry play in this game
We’ve been hearing great things about him all offseason, but haven’t seen anything from him yet.
"I'm glad they made Flintstone's vitamins because I used to watch The Flintstones and go, "Man I bet you if I ate that dude, I would be healthy."
"I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too."
We'll miss you, Pain Train.
Return the browns to the toilet they crept out of!
Love the SUH-LLAGE made my day.
A nice preseason sweep of ohio based teams(though irrelevant) would make up for the shit ass week I spent in that hell hole 2 weeks ago. Here’s to hoping the roster cuts beat up on the browns.Back to the realness seeing berry in action would be very nice, also keeping an eye on our WR situation. More targets at toone and hughes would be great.Thats the lions I would enjoy seeing friday.
Brownies arent going to roll over and play dead like the Bungles
I watched the Brown/Pack game and the Brownies were all business. I sure hope theres not a lot of expectation on a repeat of last week. Ive rarely seen everything go so right. The one and only thing I want to see is everybody walking off the field healthy.
I dont look for anything but the purest vanilla on offense. What did anybody get on tape friday except a couple of screens, a seam route or two and a couple of fades to the right corner? Oh, and that naked boot Shaun and Drew ran a bunch. Scott pulled it out of the garage, fired it up, it ran literally like a champ and now we can put it away till the 11th.
On defense, I want to see our run stop pick it up and a continuation of at least one pic per half.
"Common Sense, isn't" Solomon Short
this year is a bit different
in that last week we saw a variety of plays (not just vanilla). While you’ll get vanilla for sure, there’s plenty of spice thrown in because they need to practice them (didn’t have OTAs to learn them and camp practices to get them down pat)…

I agree everything won't go right
and the Browns are a better team. But I also don’t see the Browns having as good of a night as they did against the Pack…maybe we’ll both sink back to the middle a bit…hah.
Honestly, it’s hard to slow down the hype train right now though. I think of Cleve, I see an okay team which = us rolling!

Wanna slow down the Hype in your mind
Remember, against first teamers. We can run consistently and we can’t stop the run.
That cools off my hype real fast. No matter what pundits say about this being a throwing league. If you can’t run and stop the run. You will be in trouble.

would agree but...
I don’t think we’ll have that big a problem stopping the run. I really don’t. Maybe we won’t be top 10 like I thought, but you can’t base that opinion on 2 series of a preseason game… yes we were 24th last year, but we all know Tulloch and Durant have very admirable track records against the run. We won’t be run on all day like the Pack was last year…

forgot to mention
Spievey is looking Boss. That’s another big piece to not allowing teams to run all over us (yes, they shouldn’t get to the safety unless he was in the box, but not allowing many big gains goes a long way to removing that threat and it’s potential impact on Ws)

yeah, we will see
part of my fear. I am not sure it was the LBs sole fault last year that caused our run stopping problems. I think it was about a 40% LB and 60%DL split on responsibility.
This is a distinct flaw of our defensive design. Our DL is asked to provide so much QB pressure on their own, their fundamental coverage of the run game is frankly horrible. This forces the LBs to have far more responsibility than they really should have to have. Which results in them appearing to be out of place, when in fact they are not. This spreads them out too thin leaving holes that would not be there in a more traditional 4-3. I was watching them (DLs and LBs) closely this last game early and this seemed like a valid thought.
I know a lot of people are high on our D Line. I am excited too. Sadly, until they start improving their run stopping, they are not going to be a top 5-10 DL.

Josh - thought you'd appreciate this
I should have called this the Kris Kocurek thermonuclear catastrophe. After the run defense meltdown in the exhibition opener, defensive line coach Kris Kocurek went off on the first and second team D-linemen after every running play.
He raged. He ranted. He screamed expletives. He coached his ass off.
I think that Kocurek has one of the best jobs in the NFL. Look at what he has been given to work with. He’s usually pretty cool during drills.
Today, it seemed like Kocurek was fighting for his job. Literally. When Avril, Suh, Williams and Vandenbosch came over to the sideline, all took a knee except KVB. There was a lot of head shaking going on.
Poor Suh and Avril. After jumping the snap count both were given hell by Kocurek. "See the f***ing ball!" bellowed Kocurek, over and over.
Willie Young was not exempt from Kocurek’s wrath after a minor breakdown in technique. Even Keyunta Dawson got lit up.

I appreciate it.
Kocurek is my absolute favorite coach on that team. I also think he’s the brains behind coming up with a lot of stuff that Gun is willing to try.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
Seems like he's pretty creative
I wonder about what the ratio is on how much say each coach gets between Schwartz, Gun, Kocurek, Walton, and Burke…I know Gun credits Kocurek and Walton quite a bit. Seems to give them a lot of liberty. But I wonder how Schwartz pipes in as well…
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
Thanks!
This only solidifies my belief that our run stopping problems are on the DLine more than the LBs, which is what I saw in the Bengals game. They are asking so much from that front four, I know the guys are extremely talented but damn, give these guys some help. Throw some run stopping blitzes in there. How about a 5-2 now and then. What about a 3-1-3.
The more I hear about Kocurek the more I like him. He reminds me a bit of Gunny. Passionate, committed (in more ways than one) and ready to chew ass when needed.

You're right, Jeff, The Browns are no pushover.
The defense recorded 5 (i think) sacks, forced 2 fumbles and returned 1 for a TD. Not bat for a defense that’s transitioning from the 3-4 to the 4-3 defense.
Offensively, Pat Shurmur has installed the WCO, and drafted to fit the scheme. The 2nd WCO we’ve seen in 2 weeks.
If Tuesday’s practice is any indication, the run defense should be much improved. Another week in the scheme for Tulloch and Durant will help.
There's going to be a riot on the field if our boy tries to rip the head off of who CLE views as their surprise savior.......r.
Their feeling good about themselves just like we are. Holgrem at least has a plan, and a draft plan to return that team to respectability. You can’t knock that.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
Id love to see them put a thumping on Pittsburgh and Balto this year
The Browns fans are as loyal and and as badly treated as we were. They deserve better. Im really hoping they get it turned around over there…starting next monday, of course

Worse actually...
they had a good team in cleveland, they lost it to baltimore and since they got a team again they’ve been mediocre at best.

Well we may not be able to run the ball
Good chance now to see if we can stop the run

I’m going to be watching our new MLB VERRRRRY close this week.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
The not running the ball tag is perhaps a little harsh in this respect
They have said they dont have the run blocking packages installed yet and I believe them. Im sure they are desperately concerned about not getting any one of our QBs knocked down and thats what they’ve been practicing. This is not to say once they do, we will be able to run…it remains to be seen.

yeah also consider that Cincinnati was packing the front for the majority of that game...
If they’re going to put 8 in the box then we shouldn’t be running the ball anyways. I think we’ll see the running game open up a bit against Cleveland as they’ll throw some coverage packages at CJ and Stafford that will create soft spots up front.

Perhaps
I personally think we run better to the weak side and although Corey did fine in pass protect last friday, I dont think we are ever gonna get much running behind him. I gave up on Gos’s run blocking a long time ago and Petey got swatted 3 yards into the backfield on Jahvids second carry, I think it was. It wouldnt surprise me at all to see us mostly just get Jahvid one on one with a backer and dump it to the flat and/or screen them half to death. Once we run those big hawgs from side to side for awhile, we might get something the tackles

I thought our run game improved last year to the right side
when Corey was starting?! No?!
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
Oh yeah, we ran better once Corey got in
but to my eye the better runs came on the weak side because we were getting the backside sealed off, which was not happening when Gos was in. I mostly meant we arent going to run behind Corey at LT, where he has no business being, especially with the backside opening up again, courtesy of Mr Gos

Until I see them blocking run lanes then I’m sticking with that tag. Lets all hope I’m wrong

run blocking packages in or not

Our O line stunk at run blocking last year and in a small sample, they stink so far too.

umm
actually IT WAS there first game together (if we’re talking total D or Front 7). About the line, yes – that was mainly Suh’s responsibility IMO, but he did have well over 700lbs draped on him… You guys have to remember that Avril is played wide and at a natural disadvantage to stuffing the run. It
s great when he can, but that’s not his primary responsibiliy – it’s edge containment (in fact I saw the 2nd strings break that containment a number of times on Fri…). It’s the NEW LBs responsibilities to take on a blocker or two and clean up. That’s a bit different than a traditional 4-3, and so I do believe it makes sense they’d need more than 2 series to get used to it….geeze

YJ,,,,out of respect to the messanger I won't say, awwww bullshit.
They have said they dont have the run blocking packages installed yet
But we flog this Oline stuff all the time, so all we can do is wait until they officially can’t run the ball before commencing to bitch up a storm again. I truly believe it’s one person that’s the culprit so like someone said maybe it’s not as bad we think.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
Oh its fine, Im generally full of it anyway lol
Well I did try and qualify it three different ways, and though I entertain no thoughts that things will be different a little tiny bit of sunniness on the subject didnt seem wildly inappropriate.

I wanna see
more run stopping. and more of the Ballard kid. I want to see if he is for real or just PS this year.

I was hot as could be last year on a WR phenomenon, hell this year I can't even think of his name at the moment.
We let him go but kept DWill and BJ. he could at least hold on to the ball……got it.

My point is every year there’s some latest and greatest model that fades off into the sunset.

Yeah, I'm guessing the problem
is how those WRs perform when in the spotlight and have an aggressive corner exposing their flawed techniques…

love the clips
The Colt clip where Suh tosses him like a rag doll is great! Gotta say the Delhomme one, dirty or not, is pretty damn awesome too. Gotta love a player that aggressive, and you know Jake was pissing his panties when #90 came barreling down on him the next play too!! Keep it up Suh, just try not to get flagged for it :)
I expect a much tougher game
It would be nice to see Suh sack Colt again. I’m looking for another sharp effort from Stafford, a better run game, some more pressure from the D-line, better run stopping, and if Spievey can keep up his good play.
agree
but your description doesn’t sound like a tougher game! hah! maybe our secondary will give up more?
