Interesting Debate

I was listening to the Ticket and an interesting topic was brought up. I figured I'd poll POD to get everyone's opinion. I realize everyone here is a hardcore Lions fan, but if you're a Detroit sports fan in general then this is a very interesting topic.

The Detroit Tigers are in a pennant race and starting a 3-game series against the Indians who are only 1.5 games back of the division lead.

The Lions are playing their second preseason game, however, the starters will only get about 1 half of football in before getting pulled.

So I ask:

Poll
Which game will you watch tonight?
Tigers vs. Indians
6 votes
Lions vs. Browns
93 votes
Catch the Lions starters then switch it over to the Tigers game

Personally this is an easy pick

I’m a hardcore football/Lions fan. I love baseball and the Tigers, but there isn’t much that will grab my attention enough to pull me away from any type of Lions coverage. Lions preseason all the way.

Not enought options

I usually watch the lions on the computer because I don’t get them on cable in southwest michigan, and I have the tigers on TV muted until the lions have a commercial then I unmute the Tigers and so on and so forth

by hate2lovelions on Aug 19, 2011 3:12 PM EDT reply actions

however if

I did have the option to watch the lions on HD then I would watch the lions and flip to the tiger during commercial

Personally I'll be watching the Lions...

And it’s a numbers game. The Lions will play, what, 23 games this year, including preseason? The Tigers play at least 162. One Lions’ game is over 4 percent of the season! One Tigers’ game is about 0.65 percent of the season (all math was done in my head at a loud coffeeshop, so it might be off). Lions ftw.

Numbers

4.35%

1/162 = .0061728395061728 = 0.62 rounded up

Not bad for doing it in your head under the circumstances though…:o)

I will watch both

I’ll DVR the Lions, watch the Tiger’s replay, then watch the Lions so I can fast forward through the commercials…lol.

If I were able to watch the Lions LIVE, I would watch the Lions game first and then catch the Tiger’s replay.

I can't vote by the way...

I can’t choose between the two, and I feel my vote of “both” is the only way I could vote.

Well you answered my question below.

thanks ms. I can’t beleave it either, but that is why we have 5 starters I guess. I personally would have started JV in the 3rd game.

It's a baseball game for pete's sake.

Of course it is just an exhibition game, but I missed the first game.

Funny you should say "Rock"....

My wife and I have been in Newfoundland for the last two and a half weeks. Before that I was locking out the NFL until they settled.

If you don’t know, us Canadians and especially the Newfies call Newfoundland “The Rock”.

We have never been there [the only province that neither of us has visited] so we decided to go and take a tour. Fantastic place, great people, just about the best vacation we have ever had. I would recommend it to any adult.

I don't hunt or fish but yeah the fishing is especially fantastic.

On our drives through the countryside we would pass by multiple cars and trucks parked on the shoulder of the road around a lot of streams and brooks.
One of our hosts told us that “ta missus would go to ta fields for berries, and ta bye would be in ta stream lookin’ fa trout and salmon.”
The best lunch I had while I was there was a smoked Steelhead Trout sandwich.

As for hunting, I think they would pay you to shoot a moose or two. The things are as thick as flies and are a serious driving hazard.

My mouth just started to water. . .

Smoked Trout Sandwich, just curious did that come with chips? Fries to us Americans but I know you Canadians and your chips, eh.

by davis0169 on Aug 20, 2011 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Not freedom fries, but homemade potato chips.

The sandwich had pickled onions, cream cheese, baby spinach, and a healthy amount of trout on a homemade ciabatta bun. I was thinking of ordering a second to go.

They have some great restaurants in Newfoundland. The one where I got this sandwich is located on the extreme northwest tip of the island. Almost as far north as you can go in NFLD without getting wet.

Mouth watering just graduated to a full Retarded drool.

I don’t think I have ever had pickled onions, but the sandwich sounds Devine. As someone who worked at a fish market where we supplied people from Flint all the way to the 202 exit on I-75 with Smoked fish, I love some smoked Trout and Salmon. You can keep the White fish and Herring.

If Verlander was pitching tonight

I’d be all over the Tigers, but since he is not. . . Lions all day or Night i guess I should say. And I thought we were still up 2 full games on the Tribe.

1.5

Pretty big series now.

I'm more worried about the White Sox than I am the Tribe.

I wonder if Leland is going to let Verlander pitch the 3rd game in this series, or if he is just going to let the rotation go. With that day off yesterday, JV could go in game 3.

Love the Tigers but..

preseason games are way too fun to miss out on. I’d personally rather miss the starters and then watch the other guys play just to see who might be some diamond in the roughs. I’ll probably switch back and forth tonight but if I had a choice between one, Leo’s all the way

Watching #49 was a blast but now it's time for some #53

1 of 20 games a year or 1 of 152…pretty easy choice

To be honest.

If baseball is the only thing on, it’ll get watched. Any football game, don’t care if it’s the Pro Bowl, some random AFC matchup, etc, will beat any baseball game for me.

Baseball feels like watching paint dry. It’s a sport where you can look at the stat line and the highlights and know everything that happened in any given game. Football has too much going on and just plain matters more to me to watch baseball over it.

My cable connection (grandpa lol) doesnt get FS Detroit

So i had to vote Lions vs Browns. When there is a commercial i would have turned it to Tigers but i really want to see how our lions do.

I listened to that too, and of course I watched the Lions

Football is my sport, its what I played when I was younger, and it will always be #1 on my radar, unless they do some dumb shit like miss games in the regular season over a labor dispute. Baseball lost me in 87 with the strike, I could actually care less if Detroit has a baseball team. Sure since the do I take a passing interest in it, but I could really care less for any other sport anymore.

I used to be a HUGE Red Wings fan, I guess I just lost my love for the team after they changed the NHL. All the rules changes, removal of fighting, physical play from the game.

I guess football could lose me for the same reasons, but it will be harder for me to put down football than either of those other two sports. Then again I never, ever would have thought I would stop loving hockey as much as I did. I guess it is just important for my machismo to watch a sport that is violent and exciting, physical and has high drama and story lines. If the NFL continues down the path they are in terms of making the game unfair for defensive players to be physical, but continues to let offensive players face mask, lead with the helmet, etc. then perhaps I will eventually give up on it too.

I can live with removing the head collisions for player safety, but they really need to start calling crack back blocks on the offensive guys, and make stiff arms illegal, and no more head first dives by the runner into defenders either.
