Hilee Taylor's Agent Explains Why Client Didn't Report To Lions
It came out yesterday that the Detroit Lions put in a waiver claim for former Carolina Panthers defensive end Hilee Taylor. The problem is Taylor didn't report to camp, and the Lions put him on the reserve/did not report list as a result.
It was unclear why Taylor decided not to report to his new team until the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett got in touch with his agent, who explained the situation.
"Hilee made a personal decision to pursue other opportunities beyond football and start a new chapter in his life," Taylor’s agent, Kevin Omell, wrote in an e-mail to the Free Press.
Had Taylor decided to continue playing football, he would have competed to make the roster as one of the backups at defensive end. Turk McBride's departure to the New Orleans Saints opened the door for someone like Taylor to make the team, but that obviously won't be happening considering Taylor is giving up football.

I'm with you too
I don’t think I’d ever be able to step away from even a chance at playing pro sports, but not going to get down on a guy for doing it. not my life.
Good luck to him, hope things work out well in life for him

How tough was that ( to notify ) someone ( within the Lions organization ) ?
Read about it in the newspaper after being prompted by a reporter, classy. A little common courtesy would have gone a long ways right from the beginning…

They probably were notified
The Lions still had to put him on the did not report list.

Thanks for the clarification !
Some how, I got the impression he was A.W.O.L. or just F.U.‘d the Lions. Jumping to conclusions without knowing the full story. I’m the goof ! Report me to the commissioner’s office for disciplinary action…

He knew what he was....
training camp fodder. And honestly if he is good at anything else in the world….why risk an injury that can ruin your entire life to be a tackling dummy. Good stuff and good decision.
