Boys think about this…..
Boys think about this…..Our running back department is short of "star power" ….Best is "star power" and yes we may have decent guys behind him. But with J. Best health some what of a concern, he did experience a concussion in Fridays game, we could use some star power at the position.
Here is what I’m thinking……
With extra (lightly taken) bodies at QB, and not being able to keep everyone; Stanton and/or Robinson, should we try to trade someone even has to be Shaun Hill for Frank Gore…?
Why it works…..
We have an extra QB some where that could be trade bait…depends on how bad the Lions want Gore to determine WHICH QB is the bait.
F. Gore is currently in a hold out with San Francisco 49ers (contract dispute) and the next move could be a TRADE.
Why it doesn’t work …..
The Lions have had heavy QB injuries over the last few years…we may need our 2nd and 3rd string QB’s to play…
Do we have enough trade value in our QB depth?
Gore wants to heavy compensated contact and he is 29.… which isn’t good for the Lions.

I'm not a fan of Gore or for trading Hill
And I doubt SF wants Hill back. They didn’t particularly like him the first go-round, or else they probably wouldn’t have traded him.
Ok we Mayhew’ed them then and how about we do it again with the same player…lol “Double Mayhew’ed”…!
Brilliant!
"We’re looking to improve this team every day, every week, every month until we get to our ultimate goal, which is to win a championship. We have a long way to go," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew
if we could do something like that. . .
I would never EVER EVER, think any move that Mayhew made was a bad one. the double mayhew. that would be as bad as continually ripping Seattle and Cleveland for all their talent.
How many lumps you want Doc?
true.
this will never work, but i would pray to mayhew if that happens.

Dude That would be awesome
we should get Gore. Mayhew can do it and with Best getting the concussion and Harrison/Bell not showing much right now you have to believe Mayhew and Schwartz have at least thought about Gore

I hate this sentiment that you guys think Mayhew can do anything
He’s not a miracle worker, just a GM.
I love having a capable GM just as much as the next guy (especially after Millen), but let’s keep the “Mayhewing” and “Mayhew can do it” references in check.
wait, what?
Mayhew can’t do anything? I heard he was the Dos Equis Man…

Too continue on with the Mayhew
Superman wears Mayhew pajamas. Mayhew can set ants on fire at night. They once made Mayhew toilet paper, but it wont take shit from anyone. Mayhew is the reason Waldo is hiding. Mayhew has already been to Mars; that’s why there are no signs of life. Mayhew can ski up a mountain. Mayhew made time wait. Fear of spiders is aracnaphobia, fear of tight spaces is chlaustraphobia, fear of Mayhew is called Logic.Mayhew does not cheat death, he beats it fair and square, and usually gets an extra draft pick in the process.ghosts sit around a camp fire telling Mayhew stories.there use to be a street named Mayhew, but it was changed because nobody crosses Mayhew and lives. So what if these were all Chuck Norris jokes, they are still funny.
How many lumps you want Doc?
With current starting QB Alex Smith(last pre-season game; 8/13, 126 YDS, 1 INT….the Niners are needed a Starting Caliber QB….S. HILL could be the guy.
They have 1 that they just drafted.
I know because he’s on my fantasy team. Kapernick.
How many lumps you want Doc?
I'm hoping they have 1 I should say.
but if JCruize is trying to trade for him in our Fantasy League and he lives in SF, he must have seen something in the guy.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Kaepernick should be a decent QB given a few years
So I don’t think they’ll trade for Hill….especially considering they just signed Cullpepper too….just not going to happen ever.

OMG
I herd they had him in for a tryout, didn’t know it was that desperate out there that they already signed him.
How many lumps you want Doc?
C. Kap was some where around 6/8 and just over 50 yards if I recall right. I’ll have to check the stats but I think I’m close. No INT or TD’s.
I’m just saying they may be forced (lightly taken) to trade Gore, and may be looking for a QB or a QB/RB combination(Hill/MoMo).
Also thinking they could try to go after Chris Johnson in a trade….Rb 4 RB would make more sense i guess.
I still think that SF
Is trying to tank it this year for the “Luck” of the draw draft pick in next years draft. But hey I could be wrong.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Carolina can't possibly draft another QB in the next draft
They just took Scam Newton in this draft, and The Irish bum 2 years ago, they just can’t draft another QB next year.

+10000
John Harbaugh is going to have his guy.
Why do you think he resigned Alex Smith? Fall guy much?

I'd love Gore
that man is a terror when healthy. But I don’t see how we can afford another injury prone player…
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
I do agree……but I’m thinking the injury prone, disgruntle older RB that wants a big contact might be a little easier to trade for…lol, and for the time of the year he is able to play is it a beast!
Heck after seeing what other "better" players are going for who are up there in age
We might just be able to get Gore for like a 4th round pick.
How many lumps you want Doc?
yeah
I think Mayhew could get it done

we'd still have to pay the man some top dollars
thus the hold out and animosity…
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
Different team, different outlook.
He probably wants to get paid because he is the only legit offensive weapon as long as the QB situation stays the same. Put him in a different environment his mentality might just change. We already have about a million to spend, if we had Gore, we wouldn’t need Morris, so there’s another million plus.
How many lumps you want Doc?
How many assests in dollars, picks and players are we supposed to allocate....
To RB’s in trying to develop a ground game, when RB’s weren’t really the issue in the first place?

Exactly.
We have RB’s who are good. We could have Chris Johson and he wouldn’t be a pro-bowler behind our O-line.

Indeed
I don’t think we lack any RB talent, it’s our ability make consistent lanes. If anything, we need a new centre.

that goes without saying
will we?? We all know the answer…
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
I haven't read this entire thread.
So if this has been stated already, please forgive me.
But why would we give up a valuable back up QB for ANOTHER injury prone RB? That combined with the fact that Gore is going to want ridiculous sums of money makes him an ill target in my book.
**also
I highly doubt that San Fran is going to want us to trade them BACK their back up QB that they let go in exchange for their #1 RB.
Why in the world would anyone....
In their right mind, trade a QB for a 29 y.o. RB?
That’s scrap heap age at a demanding position and for a RB with a lot of miles on his thread.
This is a dime a dozen player looking for a paycheck based on past results, not on future production.
No thanks……

Wow
You guys are severely underrating Frank Gore. The guy is a beast. Shaun Hill isn’t nearly enough enough for him.
I'm not underrating his-- past--, your overvaluing his future, and historical trends football players.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
i still say never going to happen
and I think Hill might add value as a backup with a young starter in place
but not many teams are going to give up much for him as their starter of the future
by BillySimsMadeMeDo on Aug 22, 2011 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions
He was undoubtedly a top ten running back last year.
He’ll probably get worse in the coming years, but he’ll still be a better and more valuable player than a backup QB.
My two cents...
Shaun Hill may be the best back up in the league. But I’d say that Drew is a serviceable backup that can win games. Gore is a top 10, if not top 5 RB. At 29 years old I think we get 2 maybe 3 years out of him (that is high level play) which is enough time to make a super bowl run.
Ergo, why not try to trade our back up QB for a player that could put us at the level we need to reach to make a super bowl a reality?
just pass me the damn ball

You're missing a key element here.
1.) The 49’ers have their QB of the future in Colin Kaepernick (and potentially future back up in Luke McCown).
2.) The 49’ers are going to be hard pressed to give up their #1 RB for a back up QB that they’ve already let go once.
3.) Frank Gore is brittle. He’s made it through a 16 game season once, and has been missing more and more as he nears 30 (0 his 2nd year, 1 his 3rd, 2 his 4th/5th, 5 his 6th… notice a trend?).
So yeah. I vote NO on prop 21.
Man with that thinking we should replace Stafford now.
his stats for missing games has increased every year he has been in the league as well. I know his age is a lot younger but man as the years get on he misses more and more games as well.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Um, no.
For one, Stafford isn’t in a high-contact position like RB where his sole job is to get hit repeatedly. Also, Stafford’s been in the league for two years. I’d fully expect us to cut him if after 6 seasons he was missing more and more time.
well
i think there are pros and cons to both sides. everyone is entitled to their opinion. honestly i dont see this trade happening but i think its worth a try.
just pass me the damn ball
by Christopher Moriarty on Aug 22, 2011 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions
That's a big statement about Hill possibly being the best back-up
I personally think Philly has that covered, they have a QB who was a starter and has a winning percentage just sitting there. I can’t think of any other team that can boast that. I like Hill, but he might not even be our #2 by the time the season starts. Drew just keeps looking better and better every damn week. The fact that he will’s the team to win and his age just makes me think that he will be number 2 by the time the season starts.
How many lumps you want Doc?
True true
and with Drew proving he is better thats why Shaun is now exspendable (that might be a word haha). as to him being the best back up in the league i could be wrong there too haha
just pass me the damn ball

i say never gonna happen
I like hill, and glad he’s on the depth chart but he’s had chances to start over a period of games and hasn’t fared great (W/L) but played well as a game manager if the team around him is better.
Gore is a beast and the Niners would be hung out to dry by the media if they trade their most productive offensive player for a guy they let go for a 7th pick.
Niners have a new coach, but most of the same FO, so I don’t see Baalke admitting that mistake by trading back for him.

Because we all know on the 8th day Mayhew created Megatron.

I'll have to take a valium if he trades for a RB.
How about trading for a center and just end this searching for a ground game Martin?
Oh wait, teams never let go of serviceable centers because their so important to a teams long term success, but RB’s a heaved out left and right as by products of the NFL waste system.
And why do we trade up for RB’s again?
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
How about giving Kevin Smith a tryout
I liked him a lot back when we went 2-14
