Boys think about this…..

Boys think about this…..Our running back department is short of "star power" ….Best is "star power" and yes we may have decent guys behind him. But with J. Best health some what of a concern, he did experience a concussion in Fridays game, we could use some star power at the position.

Here is what I’m thinking……

With extra (lightly taken) bodies at QB, and not being able to keep everyone; Stanton and/or Robinson, should we try to trade someone even has to be Shaun Hill for Frank Gore…?

Why it works…..

We have an extra QB some where that could be trade bait…depends on how bad the Lions want Gore to determine WHICH QB is the bait.

F. Gore is currently in a hold out with San Francisco 49ers (contract dispute) and the next move could be a TRADE.

Why it doesn’t work …..

The Lions have had heavy QB injuries over the last few years…we may need our 2nd and 3rd string QB’s to play…

Do we have enough trade value in our QB depth?

Gore wants  to heavy compensated contact and he is 29.… which isn’t good for the Lions.

I'm not a fan of Gore or for trading Hill

And I doubt SF wants Hill back. They didn’t particularly like him the first go-round, or else they probably wouldn’t have traded him.

Dude That would be awesome

we should get Gore. Mayhew can do it and with Best getting the concussion and Harrison/Bell not showing much right now you have to believe Mayhew and Schwartz have at least thought about Gore

C. Kap was some where around 6/8 and just over 50 yards if I recall right. I’ll have to check the stats but I think I’m close. No INT or TD’s.

I’m just saying they may be forced (lightly taken) to trade Gore, and may be looking for a QB or a QB/RB combination(Hill/MoMo).

Also thinking they could try to go after Chris Johnson in a trade….Rb 4 RB would make more sense i guess.

Different team, different outlook.

He probably wants to get paid because he is the only legit offensive weapon as long as the QB situation stays the same. Put him in a different environment his mentality might just change. We already have about a million to spend, if we had Gore, we wouldn’t need Morris, so there’s another million plus.

Exactly.

We have RB’s who are good. We could have Chris Johson and he wouldn’t be a pro-bowler behind our O-line.

I haven't read this entire thread.

So if this has been stated already, please forgive me.

But why would we give up a valuable back up QB for ANOTHER injury prone RB? That combined with the fact that Gore is going to want ridiculous sums of money makes him an ill target in my book.

by mrbusto71 on Aug 21, 2011 11:23 PM EDT reply actions

**also

I highly doubt that San Fran is going to want us to trade them BACK their back up QB that they let go in exchange for their #1 RB.

by mrbusto71 on Aug 21, 2011 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Why in the world would anyone....

In their right mind, trade a QB for a 29 y.o. RB?

That’s scrap heap age at a demanding position and for a RB with a lot of miles on his thread.

This is a dime a dozen player looking for a paycheck based on past results, not on future production.

No thanks……

Wow

You guys are severely underrating Frank Gore. The guy is a beast. Shaun Hill isn’t nearly enough enough for him.

by Scout Taron on Aug 21, 2011 11:40 PM EDT reply actions

i still say never going to happen

and I think Hill might add value as a backup with a young starter in place
but not many teams are going to give up much for him as their starter of the future

by BillySimsMadeMeDo on Aug 22, 2011 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

He was undoubtedly a top ten running back last year.

He’ll probably get worse in the coming years, but he’ll still be a better and more valuable player than a backup QB.

by Scout Taron on Aug 22, 2011 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

My two cents...

Shaun Hill may be the best back up in the league. But I’d say that Drew is a serviceable backup that can win games. Gore is a top 10, if not top 5 RB. At 29 years old I think we get 2 maybe 3 years out of him (that is high level play) which is enough time to make a super bowl run.

Ergo, why not try to trade our back up QB for a player that could put us at the level we need to reach to make a super bowl a reality?

just pass me the damn ball

by Christopher Moriarty on Aug 22, 2011 1:01 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

You're missing a key element here.

1.) The 49’ers have their QB of the future in Colin Kaepernick (and potentially future back up in Luke McCown).
2.) The 49’ers are going to be hard pressed to give up their #1 RB for a back up QB that they’ve already let go once.
3.) Frank Gore is brittle. He’s made it through a 16 game season once, and has been missing more and more as he nears 30 (0 his 2nd year, 1 his 3rd, 2 his 4th/5th, 5 his 6th… notice a trend?).

So yeah. I vote NO on prop 21.

by mrbusto71 on Aug 22, 2011 1:07 AM EDT up reply actions

Man with that thinking we should replace Stafford now.

his stats for missing games has increased every year he has been in the league as well. I know his age is a lot younger but man as the years get on he misses more and more games as well.

How many lumps you want Doc?

by davis0169 on Aug 22, 2011 1:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Um, no.

For one, Stafford isn’t in a high-contact position like RB where his sole job is to get hit repeatedly. Also, Stafford’s been in the league for two years. I’d fully expect us to cut him if after 6 seasons he was missing more and more time.

That's a big statement about Hill possibly being the best back-up

I personally think Philly has that covered, they have a QB who was a starter and has a winning percentage just sitting there. I can’t think of any other team that can boast that. I like Hill, but he might not even be our #2 by the time the season starts. Drew just keeps looking better and better every damn week. The fact that he will’s the team to win and his age just makes me think that he will be number 2 by the time the season starts.

How many lumps you want Doc?

True true

and with Drew proving he is better thats why Shaun is now exspendable (that might be a word haha). as to him being the best back up in the league i could be wrong there too haha

just pass me the damn ball

by Christopher Moriarty on Aug 22, 2011 2:15 AM EDT up reply actions

i say never gonna happen

I like hill, and glad he’s on the depth chart but he’s had chances to start over a period of games and hasn’t fared great (W/L) but played well as a game manager if the team around him is better.

Gore is a beast and the Niners would be hung out to dry by the media if they trade their most productive offensive player for a guy they let go for a 7th pick.
Niners have a new coach, but most of the same FO, so I don’t see Baalke admitting that mistake by trading back for him.

I'll have to take a valium if he trades for a RB.

How about trading for a center and just end this searching for a ground game Martin?

Oh wait, teams never let go of serviceable centers because their so important to a teams long term success, but RB’s a heaved out left and right as by products of the NFL waste system.

And why do we trade up for RB’s again?
