Lions' Jahvid Best Cleared To Practice?
Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best missed his third straight day of practice due to the concussion he suffered last week against the Cleveland Browns. Despite being out, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has maintained that he expects Best to return soon, and now it appears the second-year player from Cal could be back as soon as tomorrow.
@jschwartzlions on Jahvid Best: "I believe he was cleared this morning ... Hopefully we'll have him back on the practice field tomorrow."
It seems Best will be able to practice as long as he doesn't experience a setback from now until tomorrow morning's practice. Concussions are a tricky thing, especially for a player who has had them in the past, so there's no guarantee he will be good to go on Wednesday, but the above tweet is encouraging.
If Best is back in action tomorrow, the Lions will have really gotten the best-case scenario for his recovery. Concussions can sometimes keep players out for months, so to get Best back less than a week later would be very good news.

I still hope he doesn't play on Sat
no need to risk his noggin. I mean, the dude needs to learn how to read his blocks, but he’s still better misreading when healthy (given his elusiveness) than being out or suffering with injury (like last year).
Sorry to play that game. I just really don’t trust Best’s durability. Too much evidence…

I like this.
Use the time to work out Harrison, Bell, and Brown, figure out who’s going to be the man.

It’s about Schwartz attitude toward preseason winning and building a “winning culture”

I am not sure Jhavid should be playing
I mean they showed his first concussion in college last night on the Monday Night Football preview show and it looked brutal.
It would be a hit for the Lions but.. Hey Jhavid, maybe you shouldn’t be playing this thing called football.. Your head might not be up to it.
Your a young kid man try something else……

you sound like one of those people who are afraid to leave the house.
Don’t worry Spider1, this year I am expecting no blackouts! Enjoy in the comfort (and safety) of your own home.
Go Lions!

….that im souless, not that ill be ali in 20 years i’d be ok with that hes a very respectable human being.
just messin' with ya, Spidey
Truth is, you def have a point. Concussions are no joke. But I just think, as far as not playing is concerned, Jahvid made his choice and until he finds himself in a Zack Follett type situation, he’s in it to win it.
PS- You’re right about the soulless thing. How else you think I got THIS good looking?? lol.

I had 4 concussions in about three years...
I’m doing fine now, but I always wonder what’s going to happen later. I’m 30 now and going strong lol

Really, the difference between him and "Ali" is light years
The understanding of concussions and how to treat them actually HAS advanced in the last 40 years, y’know?

And Ali
also has other medical conditions, like Alzheimer,or Parkinson. I can’t remember which one but it’s one of them.

There is no 'treatment' for traumatic brain injury.
That’s why this comment is so wrong.
Then don't call it 'treatment'
Call it ‘better recognition of the early symptoms and systems in place to minimize the damage’.
If you HAVE to be uber-technical, that is.

I get your point...
but its part of the game of football, and everyone who has ever laced up their cleats knows that and accepted that risk when they stepped on the field. I agree that it can be a serious thing, but I don’t think its anything to tuck your tail between your legs and run home to mommy about either. The hit he took at Cal was a freakish hit, and the fact of the matter is that when he was diving some douche bag hit his legs one final time while he was airborne and caused him to land on his head, so as long as he keeps his feet on the ground instead of impersonating superman, with all due respect, then he won’t end up like Christopher Reeves. But I wouldn’t sign a petition to get our best runner out of the group we have to leave town just yet.
I say
My man Jahvid doesnt play against NE and allow Ian Johnson to get some reps with the first team O-Line
There is no reason to play him this weekend, I wouldn't mind if he sat until week 1.

agree
besides that w/ the RB situation it might be better to use Brown, Bell, Harrison, Johnson for the last couple of weeks to really see what they can do and lock down that last RB roster spot, of those 4 Brown has the 3-4ths spot w/ Logan.
side note here interesting as we get to hear that Best could play we come to find out
per rapid report
KVB sustained a shoulder injury in Friday’s game vs. Cleveland. He met with doctors to evaluate the extent of the injuries Tuesday. Coach Jim Schwartz described the injury as “soreness.” The Lions have yet to determine Vanden Bosch’s status for Saturday’s game vs. New England

We are talking about 5-8 carries and a catch or 2. I think he is gonna be fine.

Schwartz said "with an eye toward not playing on Saturday" ...so he's obviously not going to play.

At this point
I would rather see less of the big names and more of them taking the time they need to make a significant impact on the “real” season. No use in injuring players that we will really need for the season.Leave the preseason for those who need to prove themselves.
off topic but if you have time to kill check this out

…if either of them can average 4 yds per carry against the Pats, it’ll be the best sign to come out of preseason since, well, an injury-free practice day. We DID have one, right? No, I guess that was the player-sponsored OTAs. Sorry.
