Lions Notes: Former Michigan Player Signing With Detroit?
- Aaron Berry says he will return the favor to the Lions for having faith in him last year. I think Berry is well on his way to doing just that based on the rave reviews he's received for his play during camp so far.
- Undrafted free agent wide receiver Demario Ballard has garnered attention during recent practices from both the coaches and the media.
- Former Michigan defensive tackle Greg Banks said on Twitter yesterday that he is going to join the Lions. There has been no confirmation of him being signed just yet, though.
- Albert Haynesworth had a, well, interesting line when asked about if he would consider himself a "high-motor player." He doesn't, and he referenced Kyle Vanden Bosch as someone that is: "That's a guy like Vanden Bosch with a battery up his butt. Not me."
- Jason Fox is currently getting a chance to show what he's got at left tackle with Jeff Backus sidelined, and Fox wants to ultimately "win a spot" in the starting lineup. It probably won't happen this year if everybody is healthy, but Fox is certainly an important player for the future at left tackle for Detroit.
- Caleb Campbell made a trip to Israel this offseason and had quite the experience, even getting to watch some high school football while there.
- SI's Peter King will be at next Monday's Lions practice.
- The Colts signed one-time Lion Ernie Sims.

i really feel like we found something here with Ballard
When teams enter a era of continued winning one of the things that always happens is finding a player that basiclly comes out of no where. This kid could make red zone match ups vs Detroit a nightmare. Heck we don’t even have anyone on the roster that can stop either one of these guys in jump ball /fade situations…. no one could match up… Bears have Charles Tillman 6’1" ( he would likely be on CJ) and their other starter is Tim Jennings…all 5’8" of him (almost a entire foot shorter) on Ballard…..faint. And there are so many match ups just like that on the schedule.
Isn't Ballard listed at 6'2"?
Or did I read wrong? Perhaps not that imposing for DBs.
Expectations don't produce!
Must not be listed right
He’s 6’5 I believe.
"I'm glad they made Flintstone's vitamins because I used to watch The Flintstones and go, "Man I bet you if I ate that dude, I would be healthy."

Mikey wrote an article
in which he said they were pretty much the same build. CJ just a little thicker in the arms. Pretty good size for an 11 year old.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

His sb profile says 6'2"
But they also say he was born 1/1/2000.

Before I had heard about Ballard...
I saw him at the practice on Saturday standing next to Titus Young and he looked gigantic, so I checked the provided roster sheet for his height and it only had him listed at 6’2. From what I could tell, there is no way he is only 3 inches taller than Titus. He definitely looked closer to 6’6.

Ballard
has been talked about a lot this first week. Most observations from camp are that he has been the 3rd best receiver after CJ and Derrick Williams.
Greg Banks is just another signing. He was a serviceable player last year at Michigan, but he is not an NFL player IMO.
Ballard
Will propably play either 4th or 5th WR depending on if D.Will comes back. Im hoping he does considering his camp. It will be an interesting WR situation this year.

redzone nightmare
With ballard, Calvin, pettigrew, and scheffler oh yeah and don’t forget about our newly acquired bruiser of a running back mikel leshore nightmare is an understatement.
REDZONE MASSACRE is more like it. Go lions feel the roar!

Calvin by himself is a redzone nightmare.
I seriously think we could just field 2 players in the red zone and score as long as one was Calvin. It would take 3 shut down corners, Manute Bol and a stepladder to cover CJ in the end zone.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

lol so true
I can’t wait to see us dominate in the redzone this year. my bet is we are the best in the redzone this year! How does 94 percent sound? Too much kool aid? Lol

it looks as if that's going to be the case
Stafford has beefed up considerably and he has a lot to prove and i think he does just that this year. He’s got so much talent and he’s going to silence all those critics imo. im still going to stick with my 94 percent prediction. I would love it if i was wrong. what’s the nfl. record anyway for best redzone percentage?

Reminds me of Herman Moore
“Tell you what, Scott. How ‘bout you just throw the ball up in the corner of the endzone to your 6’4” NCAA high jump champion receiver over there?"
Yarp.
Freaks of nature. I’m sure Calvin could just take the snap, throw the ball really high, then go to the end zone and outjump everyone for it.
When the Lions get into the red zone, I go take a smoke break because that shit is an automatic 7 points with Calvin on the field and Hanson warming up.

herman Moore was the best at the jump ball
Imo nobody could out jump that man! he’s my second favorite lion of all time sandwiched between Barry and speilman id say that pretty good company

The Sledge is my favorite lion of all-time. I have not bought another Lions jersey since getting his.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
Ahhh Johnmoz, are you talking to me? I'm a Scott
And i am all geeked up with all this talk about Ballard as well. Just last night I was throwing the Run-N-Shoot talk around with Megatron/Ballard on the outsides Nate/Titus touch in the insides and Best in the backfield. Talk about mismatches. And is Mitchell can put up 5000+ yards in an offense like that what could Staff do? 6000+?
How many lumps you want Doc?
Fat Albert is truely a piece of work...
there would have to be alot of batteries up his butt to get him going.
Fox is here to stay, i am heading to Allen Park proberbly next week to get a first hand look at how well he is doing. All i have been hearing is Ballard and Berry time to match these two up and see what happens.

Is anyone else..
pretty excited about Aaron Berry? He seems like one of those players that really blossoms when they make it to the NFL. It would be awesome if he could end up being one of the starting cornerbacks.

Its going to happen friend. My prediction is by week 7 Berry will have that job on lock down.

I would pay money to see KVB jam batteries up fat alberts ass. All that dudes doing is getting himself a one way ticket to having his ass handed to him when we play the pat’s this year.
Preseason.
BTW we won’t meet the Pats in the superbowl, we’ll be playing the Ravens this year in the superbowl.

#lions: Titus Young, Gosder Cherilus, Nick Fairley not practicing. Tom Lewand would not give update on Fairley foot injury.

this is still when SLH was a rookie i think. gun loved him then as well. probably still does.

I understand why
He showed last year he can get low. Real low. There is nothing worse for a guard than low and fast. His improvement from his first year to the second was impressive as hell. Im looking for great things from the kid this year.

SLH the man the myth
He will be the reason we trade Williams after this year!!! Take it to the bank! Woo Hoo we are on the same page again Yps. . .Still not on the Backus boat but we are almost there.
How many lumps you want Doc?
We won't miss Fairley at all
Now it sucks that he’s hurt, but not like we were jonesings for another DT. We will be fine.
Why did I expect this shit to happen with Fairley last week? I can't even say that I'm surprised.
cmccosky Chris McCosky
Fairley’s been sent to Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte for further diagnosis…still not calling it a fracture but it doesn’t look good

I agree, it's just because. I just knew that he'd be the one though.

I don’t think they’re going to rush him back. Luckily, depth is not a huge issue at DT.

I'm salivating thinking of Demario ballard's potential
If the lions drafting Titus lit a fire under DWill’s ass the abundance of wide receiver talent in training camp and the emergence of Ballard must be roasting him alive.

He played well last camp too, only to do the same bunch of nothing during the season

I was at practice today
Ballard is definitely not 6’2 I’d say 6’6 for sure. Berry looked real good I think he’s a gem. I also had a nice chat with Tim Toone and he is now my favorite player lol.
just pass me the damn ball

that's awesome!
U got to meet tim toone i hope he makes the team this year. I hear he’s a wes welker type with the talent this team has its ridiculous were probably going to have to cut good players this year which is a good thing i guess having an overflow in talent that is. feel the roar
