Lions Notes: Peter King Has Detroit Making Playoffs
- Sports Illustrated's Peter King has the Lions finishing 10-6 and making the playoffs as a wild-card team. Boy do I hope he is right.
- It doesn't appear that Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined for the dust up he had with Patriots guard Logan Mankins during last Saturday's game.
- Although he isn't going to play on Thursday, Lions defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch returned to practice on Tuesday. Wide receiver Nate Burleson and offensive tackle Johnny Culbreath were both missing from practice.
- Offensive tackle Jason Fox is no longer wearing a walking boot.
- One of the most interesting things about the roster cuts on Saturday will be to see which punter makes the team. Nick Harris and Ryan Donahue are competing for one spot, and the competition still hasn't been decided.
- Former Lions running back Kevin Smith reportedly had a workout with the New England Patriots on Tuesday.
- MLive has audio of Tom Kowalski's final radio interview. It took place just before he died on Monday morning.
- ESPN analyst Herm Edwards thinks the Lions are "making a statement" to the NFC North with their play during the preseason.

on second thought don’t click on that, he doesn’t need page views
Freeman's article was pretty insulting.
Declaring it official that Suh was dirty for a play that was never even penalized or fined…and then calling Lions fans “small” for thinking he wasn’t dirty. The last time I looked, Freeman was getting killed in the comments section. What an idiot.

We should press CBS for a retraction article.

Public outcry and retractions are still publicity.
The only way people and companies learn anything is through the loss of money. Wallets are the only places you’ll find scruples in today’s corporate society.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

We might as well just get used to it
The press has it in their heads that every team from Detroit (except perhaps the beloved Dead Things, I cant stand em so I pay them no attention) are Mean Bullies.
Listening to radio here in Vegas, the anything from Detroit are bullies thing is a pattern that Ive heard happening ever since the ‘Bad Boy’ Piston teams. The press, it seems to me just loves to refer to anything Detroit as ‘violent’

I did post one comment on the articles by both Freeman and Florio about Suh...
My comment on the article by Florio was deleted by the moderator because I called him out for sensationalizing the situation with Suh to get hits. Apparently I struck too close to home. At least Freeman’s page had the guys to keep my comments there. I also seem to be one of the Lions fans that blew up Freemans’s Twitter feed with my derision of his viewpoint.

Florio is widely considered a blithering idiot by fans of all teams.
Seems to make a point of trying to piss off everyone with stupid comments.
Punting
My money’s been on Donahue since they signed him. You don’t often bring in a new punter unless you’re ready to give him a job, and he’s looked just as good as Harris while being 11 years younger.
I thought I read somewhere he won the ray guy award in college.
Is that true or was it some bad info.

He has not
He was a semi-finalists, but Chas Henry of Florida won.
That rug really tied the room together.
I said it before and I'm gonna say it here...
Donahue can kick…but he’s been out kicking his coverage. We have Devin Hester and Percy Harvin returning kicks against us twice a year. Do you want a guy to out kick the coverage unit and put those two in position to have really good returns? Hey may be able to kick the ball a country mile, but unless he can get more air under it and give our coverage units more time to get down there, I still have to go with Harris.
LITTLE MAN IN BACKFIELD! LITTLE MAN IN BACKFIELD! GO STEFAN LOGAN!
Interesting
I’ll have to watch for that tomorrow. Not that I expect the Lions to punt much against the Bills, but I’m sure they’ll figure something out.
Keep an eye on the net yardage of each punter
It doesn’t matter if Donahue kicks it 58 yards and Harris kicks it 52 when they are able to return Donahue’s punt 20 yards and Harris’s punt 10 yards.
LITTLE MAN IN BACKFIELD! LITTLE MAN IN BACKFIELD! GO STEFAN LOGAN!
Even a D bag can drop a nugget of goodness on occasion.

Seems extremely unlikely
He’s a rookie who hasn’t practiced through the first three weeks of pre-season. He definitely needs more time.
That rug really tied the room together.
If he plays at all...
it will be only sparingly. Until he is back in practice full time and learning the plays, you won’t see him at all.

So...
What is everyone’s predictions on the season record? I’ve been saying 8-8 for awhile now, but I really want to add 1 win in there against either the Buccaneers or Cowboys.
I'm leaning 9-7
But I haven’t done my full season predictions yet to know.
by Mavyrk on Aug 31, 2011 6:57 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
9-7 to 11-5 (ceiling)
W/ a young squad thats talented they need to have the most talented QB on the field to get 10-11 games period. So Stafford needs to stay upright. this doesnt happen 8-8 at best if the Defense plays all season like they did against the Patriots in preseason. There’s no doubt that game generated all the buzz the Lions need to go into the season now just to perform up to that level of potential.
Good to see Fox is out of the Boot, now id say another 2-3 wks and he’ll start seeing some reps in practice. Good to go by week 4-5, which I also see Fairley at that time as well (hopefully) and would work well too. IT would allow both lines to gel and get into rhythm before their rotations come in.

i'm going 8-8 to 15-1
respectively of course.
I think we beat both Tampa & Dallas
I think we get Tampa at the perfect time, before they’ve "gelled’.And Dallas is overrated IMO 10-6

I am going to the stratosphere guys...
I predict 11-5 with a wild card playoff spot. We will go to the NFC championship game before we lose in the playoffs.
I never met him, but he was family to me... R.I.P. Tom Kowalski We will all miss you.
I'm thinking Detroit goes
anywhere from 7-9 to 9-7
every arrow is pointing up for them.
