Corey Hilliard
Was a former 6th round pick of the Patriots, 6'6 300 pounds seemed to fill in pretty well last season when Gosder was hurt. Any chance he gets one of the starting T jobs if Backus isn't ready or if he is just flat out better than Gosder. Dude seemed like a gamer last year, impressed me more than any of our other tackles... what Ive seen last year is all I really know about the guy

Last I heard...
OG Donald Thomas was taking first team reps at RT with Gosder not practicing (with Jason Fox in at LT for Backus) so it’s hard to say where Hilliard stands right now.

Oh. Makes sense.
I did think it was odd that he got bypassed to fill in at RT while Gosder recovers. Thank you clearing that up.

Maybe could fill in
I don’t see him beating Gos or Backus if they are healthy – but if they’re at 75%, then Hilliard might be the next best option. I agree he did a pretty decent hob at RT last year (minus the penalties). My hope is that with Fox healthy, he will beat out Hilliard as the top backup (at least at LT anyway – I like Hilliard at RT)

I mean
who doesn’t get false start or offside penalties on our team? I coulda swore Raiola got a false start as the center…
Thumbs up!

Yeah, he did.
I was quite confused at how that happened.

I like Hilliard
but I think his only chance to start is on the right side. If Backus is out for an extended period, I think Fox starts.
if Backus is hurt
Fox would take over at LT. If Gosder is hurt, Fox or Hilliard would likely take up the RT.
Not as sold on Hilliard as everyone else I guess
Good depth but I’d rather he not be the starter all year.

I have to agree with this
But it is kind of interesting that in 2010 the Lions ran better over the right side of the line when Hilliard was in than when Cherilus was in.All those games late in the season where the running game got better were with Hilliard because Cherilus was on IR. I just don’t know if that had more to do with Peterman getting healthy than it did about Hilliard vs Cherilus.
Oh, except for the second half of the last game against the Vikings.
Fox was playing RT in that one.
His run blocking was better than the Goz
He has potential. Honestly, i was really surprised with his performance. He played much better than I expected.

it also coincided
with MoMo getting touches and Liney breaking (a little) from his fetish of sending Best up the middle. Didn’t work, ok how about we send Best up the middle. Nope, ok I have an idea, lets send Best up the middle. It seemed like Hilliard had pretty sloppy play for the most part. Not horrible, not great tho either.

Makes sense, but it's interesting that the Dline was ripping apar the Oline
according to reports from last nights practice. Especially with Avril back, I’m sure Hilliard had a hell of a time. It’s hard to know what to take from news like that though…when will our Oline face that many very good players upfront??? I mean, we don’t play the Steelers or Ravens…Chicago has Peppers now…and that’s it (basically)! Vikes got Allen and one effective Williams (I’m assuming). Pack have Raji and Matthews…almost everyteam we face has A great player and maybe a good one to compliment him, but hardly any had a whole set of very good players up front. What that means is we can roll protection more easily, and run plays that neutralize those players to certain extent if any one lineman is having problems…hmmm, how to evaluate?
