Detroit Lions Training Camp: Notes From Thursday's Practice

  • Practice was delayed as the Detroit Lions waited for the official word that the CBA had been ratified. When things finally got started all of the players previously unable to practice charged out to the field and Rashied Davis yelled, "We're free! We're free!"
  • The list of players that missed practice on Thursday is as follows (via Paula Pasche): RB Maurice Morris, WR Titus Young, TE Richard Dickson, LT Jeff Backus, RT Gosder Cherilus, DT Nick Fairley, LB Isaiah Ekejiuba, CB Eric Wright and S Louis Delmas. Wright was dealing with an illness and Delmas had an excused absence for personal reasons.
  • Chris McCosky reports that DT Andre Fluellen and CB Nathan Vasher didn't finish the practice due to injuries.
  • Erik Coleman stepped in for Delmas at safety and Aaron Berry continued to work with the first-team defense at cornerback with Wright out.
  • DeAndre Levy lined up at middle linebacker and Stephen Tulloch was at right outside linebacker during Thursday's practice. Chances are the positions each linebacker plays will be mixed up every now and then so they can be ready to play any spot, but I would bet Tulloch eventually moves back to the middle for good.
  • Jason Fox continued to play at left tackle with the first-string offense. Corey Hilliard stepped in at right tackle for the first-string offense. Previously Donald Thomas had been filling in for Gosder Cherilus, but Hilliard took over the role since he was allowed to practice on Thursday.
  • Cliff Avril isn't concerned about his contract situation. He said that it's his agent's job to worry about it, as he is "here to play football and get sacks."
  • Jim Schwartz says this is a "big year" for Avril.
  • Tom Kowalski was impressed by the defense on Thursday.
  • Matthew Stafford is excited that most of the team (everybody that isn't injured) is now practicing.

Wright has flu like symtoms?

Lies. It is a FACT that HE has MALARIA from an irradiated MOSQUITO. The YELLOW fever will run rampant through this TEAM, AND we will be DOOMED! Season OVER!

Kyle Vanden Bosch ran 35 yards downfield to chase a ballcarrier on a screen to the other side of the field. Vanden Bosch had just run back to the action when the offense was lining up for their next play. Vanden Bosch immediately went into his stance, sniffed out a misdirection run to his side by Aaron Brown and chased him down for a 4-yard loss.

That is the pimp right there. He might have been winded from his long run but his mind was still sharp and ready.

Quick note: Aaron, you need to shake a guy like KVB or you have Zero future in the NFL.

Aaron Brown is now a boarderline 53 man guy...

And there was a time when some of us thought he was our best RB!

Man, it feels good to get better!

Everyone, check out minute 1:10 of this post practice video

of 9 to 81 with Berry covering. Great play by all three guys and a great example of how NO ONE will be able to stop us if we keep this up (not even Revis!)

Tom "Killer" K
Safety Amari Spievey continues to look good and is playing with a lot of confidence. Linebacker DeAndre Levy looks like a seasoned veteran the way he’s moving around

Very good stuff

After last season, I wondered whether or not Spievey was really capable of being the starter, as he looked all kinds of sloppy at times. Good to hear that he’s looking better.

What's up with the Pocket Rocket ?

Not to thrilled with Titus Young being on that missed practice list again. Valuable time is getting away from him…

indeed

I doubt they’re being honest about the injury…some “stiffness” doesn’t take 4 days to recover from…

I'm a bit concerned/curious

about this also especially combined with Fairly’s injury. Neither of our top 2 picks are out there. We just hafta wait and see.

Ah but I was so much older then and younger than right now
