Lions Notes: Ndamukong Suh Looking Forward To Hitting Josh Freeman

Sunday's game between the Lions and Buccaneers will in fact be blacked out in Tampa Bay.
Brandon McDonald has apparently lost his job as the Lions' nickel back, and he isn't happy with the change.
Although Josh Freeman is a "good friend" of Ndamukong Suh, Suh said they aren't friends on the field and he enjoys hitting him.
Suh described the trade the Lions made for Lawrence Jackson last year as a "major steal." Considering how well Jackson has played, I'd say that's an accurate assessment.
Lions players shared their memories from Sept. 11, 2001, earlier this week.
According to Kevin Seifert, the Lions currently have $3.3 million in cap room.
A Madden 12 simulation has the Lions making the playoffs as a wild card team.
ESPN and the NFL reached an agreement to extend their deal for Monday Night Football through 2021.
Lions players will be at the Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills next Tuesday.

I think this whole thing with Brandon McDonald is a misunderstanding.

None of us can say for sure what happened, including Dave Birkett who wrote the story about it. The Lions are playing in closed practices now, and that means the sports writers do not get to watch any more than the fans do. They have to sit in the Tom Kowalski media room during practice and they really do not see what is transpiring on the practice field.

This entire story is based on some tweets where McDonald was taken out of the first string defense in favor of mother guys playing at nickel. There is a lot we really do not know. There is a lot of speculation that Eric Wright was moved to nickel back based on his experience in Cleveland, but we don’t know that as a fact.

What I suspect really happened here, is the Lions wanted to evaluate Alphonso Smith in order to see if he could dress for the game. So they put Smith into the defense to see how he would react. The fact that Smith is now listed as being out for the game against the Bucs should tell you all you need to know about how it worked out.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Lions were just trying to see if they could get Phonz into the lineup and McDonald overreacted to not getting some reps.

didn’t show up as much as I was thinking in the preseason so people haven’t been talking about him a ton lately, but he wasn’t in his usual rotation in meaningful games either. He was great last year. IF him andor Young really breakout this year (or Lo Jack simply plays the same but with more reps) then I do think we have a legitimate chance to be the best Dline in football.

I was worried until the draft that CJ would take a hard look at Atlanta with the chance of Ryan throwing to him plus being back in his home state. But, Atlanta traded the farm for Julio Jones, so there’s nothing more to worry about there.

I’m happy for you guys. I’m happy that you are all excited about the game with my team on sunday. Let’s try to be real here though. Of all the post I have read from lions fans, The bucs probably shouldnt even show up. The bucs are a good team guys, they are young, athletic, both have potentially outstanding quarterbacks, young promising defensive lines and I could go on and on and on. These two teams will actually be at full strength this go around and I’m glad that is the case. Obviously you think your team can win, if you didn’t I wouldnt think much of you as fans. Personally though the lions won’t win, we have the better offensive line, the better running game, better quarterback, equal wide receivers, equal defensive line, equal linebackers and better cornerbacks and safeties. also better kicker and punter. You add that it will be blazing hot, were at home and the death of our iconic hall of famer in Leroy Selmon, you guys are coming into a hornets nest. So, I’m sorry that you all will start out 0-1. But look at the bright side people, I still think you have a good team, just not good enough. Sorry to bring you back to reality. Good Luck

Besides Suh, and Avril your talent level drops off. We have multiple high round draft picks up front. If McCoy didnt get hurt last year when he started getting the help finally, he would have ended up with probably 7 to 8 sacks. It helps to have a middle linebacker. Barrett ruud was a Pu***….. He was afraid to stick his head in there and tackle someone.

With a season or two I think he’ll be as good as any of our ends, if not better. Bowers should prove to be great once he’s able to earn the starting job. To keep it real tho TB was in the bottom 25% of the league in sacks and QB pressures last year so let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

I understand where TB fan’s position comes from, with the new additions and the exciting optimism of a fresh, could-be-powerful D line, but Detroit has a proven commodity that has already shown itself over a 16 game season. To compare them is, as I said earlier, silly.

It’s the same reason Stafford-Freeman comparisons are silly. Freeman has a 16-game season and is a proven commodity. Stafford is exciting and cause for optimism, but there’s no real reason to be homeristic about the QB situation in this matchup; Freeman gets the nod. If Stafford plays better of the two tomorrow, great, but getting all puffed up about it when he could, all things told, be very mediocre tomorrow is silly.

I'm just going from what I hear from lions fans coming down to out blogs

I was actually kind compared to some of them. Truthly though, I do see this game being very close and I have always liked the lions due to the fact that we were all in the same division before. I actually have no clue who is going to win this game, if I did I guess I would go and get some powerball tickets and invite lions and bucs fans to a huge freaking party. I do wish you all luck, hopefully no one gets hurt and maybe, hopefully we can meet again in the playoffs, if not this year maybe in the near future.

The only things you got right is that you have a better running game and oline for running the ball + better CBs. Our oline are better pass blockers though. We clearly have a better Dline and proved last year. I love the potential of Williams, but you can’t put him on the same level of CJ. You can put Benn on the same level as Burleson. You can also put Winslow on the same level as Pettigrew. But then we have Scheffler and Titus Young, not to mention Best as electric receiving threats. I think our new LBs will be better and both of our safeties look to be quite good.

And most of all, Stafford>Freeman period. You will see.

You guys had if I remember your full Dline ready when you faced us last year and we were without three of our starters, we still ran and passed the ball efficiently. As far as your Dline being way better than ours, only time will tell guy. Look the bottom line is this, both teams are good period. both teams are young period. As far as quarterbacks go, how can you say Stafford is > than Freeman? At least Freeman can finish a season and is not like a brittle china doll. You guys will be lucky to have him as your starter all year… Hell, he may not even make it out of sundays game.

you guys clearly have the advantage at WR, we dont even have a calvin johnson type receiver (not many do)
we clearly have a better running game and a better running back, even though if you saw anything from preseason you might throw up.

When it came to the injury front last year. If you want to get really technical, you barely beat us (messed up call on K2) and we even started more rookies than any team EVER……

There's no denying TB is a team on the rise

I think it’s clear Detroit is too. Both with young very talented QB, RB, and Dlinemen. I think we’re looking at top 10 qb and Dline for some years to come.

Reading your posts evolve I think you’ve realized this is a tough game to call. I think it’s also clear one can NEVER come to a teams site and change the fans minds on how to predict their game. TB has shown some good and knowledgeable fans interested in having a good discussion. Combine that with these 2 up and coming teams and I’m looking forward to future TB games!

i guess we will see, of course i think the bucs will win because i am a bucs fan and you wouldnt really be true fans if you guys didnt think detroit was gonna win

all i can say is winner tomorrow is the better team, point blank and no excuses. if we win i will come in here and tell you good game and were obviously the better team but if we lose i have no problem coming in here and saying good game and admitting you guys are better.

where are you? all that talking about you having better running backs…better wr’s…. better qb…. i guess actions speak louder than any of your words! i told you!!!! game was only close in the first quarter! and the running backs you spoke of…..who are they again? blount….or graham…or whoever….not even close to jahvid and our crew! freeman….well maybe next year,but not against us! and your wide outs….who are they again? didnt see anyone except k2….. and he did absolutely nothing except celebrate after a 4 yard gain… wow,bucs are not as good as us,last year or this year….i just hope you have the courage to log in here again….if not i understand….good luck in the rest of the season…maybe we’ll meet you again in the playoffs in our house….but i have a feeling the score would be worse for you guys…no heat and humidity in ford field…..anyway good luck buc fan.

All you bucs fans are not talking now….what happened? Better qb…. Better running backs… Better kicker… We out played every position by a lot! Kicker had more points…running backs had more yards receiving and rushing…. Tight ends had more yards… Wr had more yards……. No sacks given up by us… I mean as i look back in thus game… We really destroyed Tampa bay…. Only thing we really did was 2 dumb plays by peterman and godser to keep you in the game! Well on to the next team now… Kc is next.
