How about Keiland Williams....
Amongst the carnage of the 48-3 victory, one of the players that fans have been waiting to see emerged... Keiland Williams. I gotta say, I like what I saw. Not only can Keiland push the pile, but he can spin of it too... damn near had a score during such a run.

I hope the coaches agree, as Williams looked faster, stronger, and a bit more hungrier than Harrison. Let's all hope that Keiland will be able to close out a bunch more games.... starting with the color purple. I'm not saying he's going to be anything but a role player, but his proformance was good enough to warrant a solid rotation when draining the clock and closing out the game.

To be fair, that was the Chiefs 2nd unit too...
I still think Keiland is a bit players… Harrison is still the back up.

Thanks tinkles.

However, this was more of a ‘1st time’ viewing type of opinion, not a Harrison sucks one…. On the other hand, Harrison did give Williams a breather, though I don’t think he got anywhere. :P

Carries in special situations, like 3rd and 2 or goal line..
He is a bruiser and I like that, but given 25 carries a game… I think Harrison would produce more than Williams..
Please don’t think that my comment means I don’t like KW.. but he is our 3rd back… maybe 4th.

SHeesh!
This was the first time you saw the kid play in Blue… and all you can come up with is…
Eh, he’s a role player.
No shit, Sherlock. Got any other obvious statement? Maybe there’s a Titus Young thread you can go to and let them all know that Calvin Johnson is the #1 and you don’t see Titus doing anything to change that.>>>>> LMAO!!!!

Bit player
Role player. Same thing. Just a “supporting role.” In movies, they get lines, but not many…
Oh Yeah!!!
Did the Cheifs have a first unit yesterday?

It was one game
lets not get to far ahead of ourselves. Fact is Harrison and Williams are only hear to take the place of Leshoure.

I don't understand the debate between Williams and Harrison...
I see Best as the undisputed no.1 rb. After that, it’s just role/situational guys, so saying no.2, no.3, etc. is pointless.
I think the role of Maurice Morris and Jerome Harrison is to relieve Best or be 3rd down backs and Keiland Williams is clearly a clock killer/goal line/short yardage. The only reason we have both Morris and Harrison is because they combine to give us what we had in Leshoure.
When Mikel comes back, he can be a lead back who can push piles, get tough/consistent yards, and limit Best’s carries to maximize his effectiveness. I see only one out of Morris, Harrison, Williams being kept around when Leshoure returns next year, and my money would be on Harrison or Morris, since they give us the most versatility if Best or Leshoure go down.
Either way, and to return to the OP, I think Williams is exactly the band aid we needed for the Leshoure injury. He adds to our RB committee that power that was lacking and I agree, CLF, he looks promising yesterday. I liked the limited action he got in Washington, lets hope he can build on it and be the guy that allows us to dominate time of possession and finish what we start.
totally agree
different roles/skill sets. Obviously Best=1, the rest serve specific roles. Now the issues right now is who does a better job between MoMo and Harrison – because they both pretty much offer the same type of things for the situations we’d use them…Keiland offers something neither of them can…so it’s kind of fruitless to argue #3, #4 etc. in regards to him.

MoMo better tighten it up with the ball security, or he's going to be gonegone.
No way is Schwartz going to put up with any sort of unusual fumbling issues. If he benched Gos for a penalty, he’ll cut Morris for another fumble.

no when they’re hand injury related

Jason Heyward: Single up the middle, ballgame.
Ya think? Maybe in the "old" days.
If it keeps up he’s gone. MoMo is very replaceable, at a much better price.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
I disagree...
Morris was brought back too soon and that’s why he didn’t get any carries/looks in week 2. Morris is a dependable back who can do it all so he won’t go anywhere this year.

I'll roll with that.
I thought so too. I guess to clarify what I’m saying is if once again he’s brought back, healed and healthy, and the sloppy ball control continues, then there’s no doubt that the “oh well” times are over….He’s gone.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
oh, for sure
I think with Cherilus getting benched this week that is proof of that. If you are hurting more than helping then you are not going to play and if you don’t earn your spot back then you are gone.

Wasn't really trying to start or even feed a debate...
Just how refreshing it was to see a larger back actually push piles and move the ball at the end of the game…. harrison was brought in as he had a few carries that spelled Williams, and didn’t go anywhere.

Totally agree
Looks to be a very capable role player. An important role that we’ve been missing. My only concern with him remains that our coaches don’t utilize him enough, thinking Best is the best option to run between the tackles all game. As much as I like Best, and he has proven he can run between the tackles if it’s a counter or draw, we should sprinkle in the power run game throughout many of the games we play IMO
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
I should also say
while I value MoMo, Harrison has better acceleration & elusiveness – so his ability to make a big play seems higher. Therefore I see Harrison spelling Best of some of the type of runs that Best would/could run. That would equate to most of our running plays. But there are still situations that call for power running and the obviously to kill time…that’s where Keiland comes into play IMO

I wouldnt be surprised if .....
w this being MoMo’s last year on contract in Detroit and on his last legs in the NFL and more of a role player than someone who can start. After the Brown dumping and picking up Harrison and Williams it got me into thinking about the future of Detroit and what they are trying to set up. You would have to believe after losing Leshoure and drafting 2 young RB’s over the past 2 yrs we wont see another drafted especially since Leshoure and Best are suppose to be our 1-2 backs. So why not keep them young w/ a lot of legs underneath them?, Harrison assumes MoMo’s role and Williams becomes bruiser two if they can develop him over the year and he has the skill set they like.
A coward dies a thousands Deaths a soldier dies once ....
definitely
I also don’t see them drafting a RB AGAIN unless Harrison or Keiland flop. Then, perhaps there could be a 4th or later pick. But I agree that if Harrison and Keiland continue to look as they have, we’ll probably go into training camp standing pat – at least until we know for sure if LeShoure will be coming back 100%…

Keiland Williams
has the potential to be an extremely valuable asset to the Lion’s run game. That said, I fear that Linehan and Schwartz wont use him to his full potential. Just a hunch…
The future is bright.
mine as well...

Week 1 showed us a few things about our run game.
1. Morris needs more time to fully heal.
2. Best can be a feature back.
I’d like to see Harrison used more often, play extremly well , then traded by Mayhew for a starting G and a high draft pick, once Morris is healthy. Keiland and Logan can pickup the few extra snaps.
Keiland did fumble ,which was his last carry, but the Lions recovered the ball. Harrison came in after that.
I thought being lazy was a bad thing, So I gave up thinking.
Keiland the #2 back
No really I don’t care about what number he is as long as we utilize him. We were all waiting to see who we could find at the end of roster cuts and I think we found a good one.
Size, speed, good hands, blocking ability check. It will be interesting to see how our backfield shapes out next year. I would have ti think two

Our backfield is certainly not where we need it to be, it's,still a work in progress.

work LeShoure’s heel back into health!

that two of them won’t be returning next year. besides not knowing our playbook and protections is there something that MoMo or Harrison does that KW can’t?
Also if Leshoure stayed healthy do any of you think we would have entered the season with Best, Leshoure MoMo and Brown as our backs?
KW looks to be the old square peg we love so much. I for one would like to see him get more action and help Jahvid stay rested. He may not be a feature back but should provide us with some valuable plays that the others can’t.
Sorry if this was sloppy, posting on my phone at work.

I for one agree with your post
Williams looked good. I think he could be a better compliment to Best than Harrison. I would like to see him get about 5 to 10 carries a game, including goalline and certain shortage situations. Hell a 2 back formation, with Best going in motion as a wideout could be a nice wrinkle. But I certainly like the fact that he is that bigger, stronger runningback that missing in the Lions rotation.

interesting
Seeing he was playing FB for the Redskins this preseason. It could make sense every once in a while to show that formation. You could run a fake hand off to Keiland and toss it out to Jahvid (and then obviously the next time just give it to Keiland with the line moving laterally as if they’re protecting for Jahvid). I think it’d be more useful, as you said, as a pass play. Since Keiland can block well, he’d be able to chip and be a check down while Best ran a legit route – I’m all about Best being used as WR…LOVE the empty back set as well!
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
my biggest hope for Williams ties in with my biggest fear of using him
I’m hoping for him to be capable of a variety of blocking situations. The problem is he’s new to that and my understanding is this is the issue of why he didn’t last under Shannys in WA. I hope to see either Heller, Williams or whomever in more blocking for Best runs.
I also would like to see Williams get plenty of carries and not only just in obvious short situations or garbage time. They seem to have really been hungry for a strong legged churning bruiser back so I can’t see him not getting expanded touches.
I worry about his dufusness tho. That ST play where he effectively blocked Titus because his man mountainess was just standing there scratching his ass wondering what to do. They value ST performance too much for that not to be whipped into shape or stand in his way for a place here past this season. Then again if he can block on O and thump LB meat around he still has a much needed skill set.

what lead you to believe that???
My impressions, based on fans reactions, and Keilands scouting reports is that he’s a very capable blocker. He didn’t fit Shanny’s system though – because it calls for one-cut running backs with good vision and very good burst. Keiland lacks a bit of the vision, and while is fast for a 230+ back, he’s not as fast as the kind RBs shanny uses…
I could see us using more and more of Keiland as the season goes on and the coaches trust him with our protection schemes…
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
I think he's size can come in handy
Best so far is doing an admirable job carrying the load, but someone like Keiland will come in handy in short running situations.
Williams is the man.
From what I can see already, he is far better than Harrison. I think Williams will emerge as our #2 guy and get about 4-8 carries a game—maybe more if we need to grind the clock out when we go up big. Best will remain our most dangerous Lion. I doubt we will see much of Morris or Harrison after a couple of more weeks.
I hear ya
and think that will be true in games where we’re passing a ton. But i also think we should be sparing Best a little, given his durability. Because of this, we may see 4-8 carries by either Harrison or Morris depending on who plays better in these next couple of games.
I think we’re still in a “feeling it out” mode right now with our backfield…

Keiland looks like a good take what the d gives runner but Harrison is faster.
