2009 Draft Revisited.
With the news that Jason Smth, the second overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the St. Louis Rams, has benched (http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Rams-send-second-overall-pick-Jason-Smith-to-bench.html) and the previous benching of Aaron Curry as well as the other potential busts that litter the first round , I want everyone to revisted the draft class of the Lions and compare them to the other teams.
1-1 Matthew Stafford (Need I say more?)
1-20 Brandon Pettigew (Did you see the Vikings game?)
2-33 Louis Delmas (Very good Starting Safety)
3-76 DeAndre Levy (Starting WLB nad part of great trio of LBs)
3-82 Derrick Williams (first mistake, well, can't get them all right)
4-115 Sammie Lee HIll (great rotational DT, would start on other teams)
6-192 Aaron Brown (not bad for a 6th round, maybe he will get another shot somewhere else next year)
7-228 Lydon Mytha (Practice Squad loss, He is or was starting for the Dolphins)
7-235 Zack Follett (Fun while he lasted)
7-255 Dan Gronkowski (traded for Alphonso Smith)
With as many potential busts in this draft, this list shows how well Mayhew and company have done thier job. Thank you very much Martin from a very happy fan!

I broke down our 2009 draft before
And really, all things considered, that’s one of the better drafts any team has come out with in recent years – and all those guys are still far from finished products.
The fact that Brown, Myrtha, Follett and Gronkowski have all managed to stick around NFL rosters might be the most impressive part about it.

Gronkowski was just released by the Patriots before the Buffalo game.
"Filling a need doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a good player," said Schwartz. "It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that best fits; it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that’s better than what you have already."
More or less
Praising him for even being in the NFL at this stage in his career. Most 7th rounders aren’t.

Sorry, did not see your previous post.
The thought occurred to me after the benchings of Smith and Curry. To look through the first round of that draft and seeing so many players under-performing while the Lion picks are hitting their strides is just amazing to me.
Murtha is injured again.
He was put on IR at the start of the year, but yes he did start four games in 2010.

four starts from a 7th rounder in his second season is pretty damn good

If you look at some of the better teams in the league
they dont miss on their 1st and 2nd round picks. And usually get a few picks in the middle rounds. This is exactly what I am seeing from Mayhew.

The way I see it is
That the draft is defined in the mid rounds, you need to get good players on all 3 days in order to keep your team moving forward.

Agreed
but more importantly, from what I see. If a team misses on a 1st round pick. It tends to set them back a year or two. Especially when that team is drafting in the top 10.

thisdraft class might be as good as 2009 class think about the lions got a starting wr in young at a de /dt in fairley who would be astarter on most teams and might turn in to pro bowel player next to sue in afew year and they draft a powear rb that if he had not got hurt would be helping the lions runing game this year .and donot for get the lions drafted to young player s one big ot/g type player who might push for playing time next year and a young olb who is on the pracie roster who might play some time this year . all and all not a bad draft for the lions this year i think one more draft class licke this one and the lions will be as deep as grenn bay roster and they won it alllast year .
I'll admit.
I was kind of worried about this year’s draft class with none of our draft prospects making it through the pre-season with a shot at starting, but Titus Young stepped up and Fairley’s coming back and I remain hopeful for Leshoure’s and Culbreath’s return.
Does anyone know how well Hogue’s been doing on STs?

He has been active all three games so far but due to Ikejuiba getting shaken up might get some time against Dallas.

Hogue has been inactive all three games so far this year.
The only way I see him getting dressed and playing is if one of the LBs gets injured. He might get that chance this week depending on how Isaiah is.
