Dan Orlovski to Tryout with Colts, feels good that were on the other side of sucking now
Dan Orlovsky has been invited to tryout with the Colts.
http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2011-09-27/colts-look-at-orlovsky-croyle-as-qb-insurance
Another interesting fact is that Orlovsky is 0-10 in his career, maybe another 0-16 coming up?
Just shows how far we've come since '08.
Quick Question for Anyone, do you guys want another team to go 0-16 or do you want it to be a Lions thing.
Personally I feel its the Lions thing, do I pride my self in it? No, but I do feel that we have something to prove to other teams and when we one day win the Superbowl we will be laughing not all the haters.
UPDATE: Dan Orlovsky has been signed today and might actually start next week on MNF against the Buccs

I sure do want another team to go 0-16
Something about being the worst team in NFL history doesn’t sit well with me.
The 0-16 season hurt on so many levels.
The thing that hurts the most is it will always be there. Even if we go 19-0 and win the Superbowl, the story will be how the team was once 0-16 and look! Now they won the Superbowl! Some say it makes the story better, I suppose it does. But to me that hurts. Screw that. Id rather stick with “they haven’t won a championship in over 50 years”
Also, I know it’s a “team effort” but Orlovsky running out of the back of the endzone in a game we lost by 2 points still makes me shake my fist. I’m not saying we definitely would’ve won that game, but there is a HUGE difference between 1-15 and 0-16. One is really bad, the other is the worst in history.
Poor Colts fans.
(BTW I still got Peyton on my bench in FFL, don’t know when I’ll finally give it up. It seems like such a waste to drop him for some nobody just so I’m not wasting a roster spot. It is a keeper league, but we’re only allowed to keep one player per position and I got Stafford. Still hoping I can trade Peyton. Not holding my breath though…)

I see your point
But I just feel likes it’s a Lions thing. I hate it as much as everyone but I feel that ultimatly it happened for the better. For all we know imagine if we went 3-0 to start the season M—t M——n might still be with us. We have changed and I think that we can look back and say ok we sucked but now we are the champs.

I dumped him as soon as I heard the word surgery.

I don't understand that.
The Buccaneers were the worst team in NFL history. They went 0-26. You can mitigate that with saying it’s an expansion team, but Millen basically put us on that level anyways, and the Bucs wouldn’t have won a single game even if the season lasted 30 games in the 70s. Too many bad players, bad coach, an owner that was cheap, and too many injuries. At least the Lions were mildly competitive in going winless, the Bucs regularly got their doors blown off.

I was referring to how it is looked at by others.
The fact is I’ve had this argument many times. I’m usually on your side of it. Not sure where you are Mav, but as a Lions fan living in Georgia, I’ve had to defend my fandom on multiple occasions and of course it all comes down to 0-16.
Here is the main argument:
Football goes by years. The Super Bowl Champion lasts for a year. The perfect Miami Dolphins of 1972 would not be considered “perfect” if people included their 1971, or their 1973 seasons yet they ARE considered “perfect”. Every year a team is different as we can definitely say the 7-9 2007 Lions were different from the 0-16 2008 team. Both of which were way different from the Schwartz run 2-14 2009 team.
I’m actually with you on this. But others are not.
I have gone through this with many people from dudes in the bar, to guys in fantasy leagues. The fact is 16-0 is worse than 14-0. Sure I would agree that the 1976 Bucs probably would’ve lost all 16 games if their season was that long, but it wasn’t, so it doesn’t matter, none of the “what ifs” come into play here because they cannot be proven. 0-16 is an historical fact. And yes, 0-26 is worse than 0-19 but to others that’s grasping at straws and will illicit an eyeroll when explained. Because people think of football in years. That is one of the best things about football as it lets everybody start out on equal footing each year and the Lions have certainly taken advantage of that. In this case however, it works against us. This is why I refer to it like that. Because that is how it is percieved. Even on Wikipedia, if you look up the Bucs page there is this line:
Until the Detroit Lions in 2008, the 1976 Bucs held the dubious title as the least-winningest team in NFL history.
“Until the Detroit Lions of 2008” — See what I’m saying??
You know the truth, and I know the truth, (I don’t remember exactly, but I think there were like 4 games that year that we lost by one possession) but it doesn’t really matter. When it comes down to it, it’s really about how people perceive it. And that is why I hate it so much. Until the season goes to 18 games, the 2008 Detroit Lions will be the “least-winningest team in NFL history”. It’d be nice if we didn’t hold that “distinction” alone.

I think that those losing seasons are the reason that a lot of people root for us now.
It seems to be human nature to root for the underdog, (or recent underdog, in our case.) Over time, though, people will start hating on us because we win too much.
Did you guys see the size of that chicken?
Yeah
But I think underdog more like going 4-12, so so so many people jumped out of the fan base after 08 and now have rejoined due to our recent success.

Just a random thought,
I can recall Jim Rome saying that he hoped we would go 0 – 16 that year. Just so he would have something to talk about, I guess. On the other hand, he is a Suh supporter, now. Don’t know how to feel about him, sometimes.
Did you guys see the size of that chicken?
He wanted change here
And knew that sucking that bad would ultimatly lead to it

ya Jim Rome has always echoed the Lions fans
I remember a lot of people here rooting for an 0-16 season once we hit around 0-12. He was just having a little fun with his countdown. But he has done nothing but say how “sick” and “scary” our d-line is and is absolutely infatuated with nick fairly. He is actually the one that gets me more jacked up than anyone about our future.
The future is bright.
I wouldnt wish that on any fanbase.
As much as I hate Chicago, I wouldnt wish it on even that miserable bunch.

He Could Double as a Kickoff Returner Under Current Rules
…since most of them are touchbacks anyway, he could step out of the End Zone without serious consequences. Unless, that is, he stepped out on to the 1-yard line first! Come to think of it…I withdraw my idea, lol.

LOL, Dan Orlovsky in his role as the Endline Emperor
I never met him, but he was family to me... R.I.P. Tom Kowalski We will all miss you.
Want to go to an 18 game schedule...
so that somebody else can go 0-18 and everybody forgets about us sucking that much.
I never met him, but he was family to me... R.I.P. Tom Kowalski We will all miss you.
Now thats a differant story

Makes sense that the Colts would sign him...
He was barely beat out by Painter in the preseason. I think the only reason Painter beat him was because they felt Painter was more familiar with the offense, having been there a few years.

I feel that
Orlovsky has more upside, should be interesting to watch next monday

Sorry, but I can totally live with the Chicago Bears going 0-16.
It would rank as one of my favorite seasons of all time.

Am I the only one cracking up at ESPN over this?
Their big MNF game this week features Dan Frickin Orlovsky.
I'm a 7 WAR player in bed.
DFA Rev Halofan, The New York Yankees, The Tamps Bay Blue Seats, Carl Crawford, John Lackey, Darnell McDonald, Terry Francona, Curt Young, Dave Magadan, Tim Bogar, Buck Showalter, Hawk Harrelson, Jonah Keri, Murray Chass, Mark Sanchez, Micheal Vick, Jared Allen, Jerry Jones, Al Davis, Vuvuzelas, The Chicken Dance, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Stephanie Meyer, and the entire fucking city of Philadelphia.
They signed him
but that doesn’t mean he’ll start.
