Goz

The Goz is quickly becoming the sacrificial lamb of the offensive line. Benched for one penalty (sorry, there were 21 other players and several coaches not producing that second half). Benched again for one sack (hello, how many sacks did Backus give up? How many false starts in a row does he have to have at "critical moments" before he gets benched too?). Goz played like he was constantly looking over his shoulder waiting for the coaches to come up with another BS reason to pull him from the game. He is playing timid and scared now. Not the way you want your mauler RT to play. Who can really blame him? All he has to do is look around and see others making the same mistakes, more often than he does, while suffering none of the consequences.

I am not sure when we changed our strategy from developing talent to throwing it away but Goz is example #1 of our team doing it wrong. The biggest knock on him was consistency and being over aggressive. Both traits can be coached to some degree. The former, takes time. The latter is something coaches look for in their O lineman.

Why are we, fans and coaches, so ready to toss aside one of our young and nasty O lineman at a position of such thin depth and such high team value? Our team needs to find a way to recover this kid, he is too young and too talented to just toss aside.
