NFL Roster Cuts: Detroit Lions Release Robert Callaway

Stay connected for news and updates

According to Dave Birkett of the Free Press, the Detroit Lions have started letting players know that they have been released. One of the players who has already found out he has been cut is defensive tackle Robert Callaway, who was informed last night.

Callaway had an outstanding preseason for the Lions in his second go-around with the team. If he was on a team with less defensive tackle depth, chances are he would be among the 53 making the roster. Since the Lions have Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Sammie Hill, Nick Fairley and Andre Fluellen ahead of him, there just wasn't room to keep Callaway.

If Callaway isn't scooped up by another team, I think he will be signed to the practice squad. That's obviously a big if considering he did play so well during the preseason, but if he clears waivers, I expect him to rejoin the Lions on the practice squad.
