We now know about three more players the Detroit Lions have released: wide receiver Nate Hughes, defensive end Keyunta Dawson and defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock.
Hughes seemed to pass Derrick Williams on the depth chart, but he was still stuck behind Rashied Davis and Maurice Stovall. Stovall especially played quite well during the preseason and appears to have played his way onto the roster. Hughes wasn't bad (aside from his fumbled punt return), but he wasn't one of the best five receivers in camp.
Pitcock and Dawson join Robert Callaway as casualties of the depth on the defensive line. At defensive end the four players expected to make the roster are Kyle Vanden Bosch, Cliff Avril, Lawrence Jackson and Willie Young, and there wasn't room for someone like Dawson. At defensive tackle the top five is set with Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Sammie Hill, Nick Fairley and Andre Fluellen, and there wasn't room for Pitcock, who did have a solid preseason.
