NFL Roster Cuts: Detroit Lions Release Nathan Vasher, Donald Thomas

Two more names to add to the list of Detroit Lions roster cuts are cornerback Nathan Vasher and offensive lineman Donald Thomas.

According to Dave Birkett, Vasher was released in part because the Lions are going to activate Alphonso Smith from the active/non-football injury list. If Smith started the year on the reserve/non-football injury list, Vasher might have been able to make the team. That didn't happen, though.

Thomas played both guard and tackle during the preseason in hopes of making the team as a backup offensive lineman. He wasn't able to make the roster, though, suggesting that Dylan Gandy is once again back on the team.

Here is the updated list of Lions roster cuts: Vasher, Thomas, cornerback Prince Miller, offensive lineman Rudy Niswanger, cornerback Paul Pratt, defensive tackle Robert Callaway, wide receiver Nate Hughes, defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock, defensive end Keyunta Dawson, offensive tackle Kirk Chambers and linebacker Cobrani Mixon.

Hey Sean,

When Vasher was kept out of the final pre-season game

I seen the writing on the wall.

I thought being lazy was a bad thing, So I gave up thinking.

Vasher is surprising

Not upset about it though. Donald Thomas I also expected to stay.
