NFL Roster Cuts: Detroit Lions Release Derrick Williams, Keep Aaron Brown
Filed under: News We've All Been Waiting For, Dave Birkett tweeted that Derrick Williams will be released tonight. Birkett is also reporting that Aaron Brown has made the team.
There was a lot of optimism surrounding Williams early in camp, but that was long forgotten after he dropped back-to-back passes against Cincinnati in the first preseason game. It's tough to give up on a third-round pick, but Williams was given more than a fair chance in Detroit.
Brown likely won his roster spot during the Patriots game. Overall, Brown had a pretty impressive preseason, but his performance against the Patriots was special. It is still unclear how many backs the Lions will keep, but it appears Jerome Harrison's spot may be in danger.
UPDATE: Lions have announced that they will not release full 53-man roster until 8 PM. Looks like we'll be waiting a little longer than expected (cuts must be made by 6 PM).

Wanted him to do well, but just too many drops, false starts, etc. See you down the road, D-will.

nice!
I liked Brown a lot – he made me a believer for our offense
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
It's all working out as I hoped.
But…..this is it for AB also. It’s time to play smart, and produce when given the chance.
I have confidence that if used correctly, he’s going to make things happen.

Why would Harrison's spot be in danger?
They kept 5 backs all of last year, and that was with Felton. This year they only will probably keep 4, but it would be Best, Morris, Brown, and Harrison.

Merriweather is toast.....
burnt toast….
I will never pretend to know more than they do; except in Millen's case.
Rooster update
It appears they are going to keep 7 LBs and only 5 CBs. That is a shocker IMHO. I did not think they were going to keep only 5CBs. That is if we cut Anthony Madison. But needless to say we still have 9 more offensive players that will need to be cut.
Their going to pick up a CB somewhere.

LOL...this is what I want you to do.
I seriously wanted to ship you that beer last year and it didn’t work out.
I want you to go buy 20 bucks worth of something, a Michigan beer? Or Michigan wine? And drink it with the old girl.
And thank Derrick Williams…..lol

I'm not sure if we have any MI beer available??
There are so many MT micros we don’t have room for out of state beers. To think of I’ve searched high and low for vernors.

Where in Montana are you?
I’m heading out to Glasgow MT, for the opening week of pheasant season. I’ve got room in the truck for some MI brew and Vernors.

Thanks for coming out DWill
Don't let my profile name fool you. My heart is, and always has been, with the Detroit Lions.
I don't see DWill as a wasted Third.
When you have this much success, in such a short period of time, some players get left out. Good luck Derrick, I hope you can catch on somewhere in this league.
NO HOMO!!!!!!!
Are kidding me? what success?
Win 6 damn games and it’s like we’ve won the Super Bowl or something.
We haven’t done a thing except maybe gain a little respect and lose the Millen stink.

YOU'RE A FANBOY!
yeah I’m not sure what he’s talking about with regards to Derrick williams. We’ve definitely drafted some solid talent these past few years but a lot of that talent still hasn’t realized its potential whether its due to injuries or under-performance. From that draft class, we picked up Stafford (TBD untli he stays healthy), Delmas, Levy, Williams, Sammie Lee, Aaron Brown, Murtha, Follett, Grankowski.
Delmas and Levy being the only two who have played consistently enough to be considered initial successes. Obviously Stafford should count towards that assuming he stays healthy, and Follett until his injury last season was a surprise.
Jonas Jerebko once killed a charging female rhinoceros in heat protecting its young with nothing more than a hook shot.
If you're looking only at that draft class than sure,
that’s not an entire starting roster that’ll win games. But if that’s your expectation of a draft class than your only kidding yourself. Anyways that class did produce 3 starters and SLH could be a solid starter on just about any team.
Fortunately, there are other means to acquire players and afte having 2 wins the previous 2 years, yes 6 wins is success with a very young team that hadn’t been together, without their QB.
Jesus Christ, you’d think we just signed all of Tampa Bays 3rd stringers again.
Now is the time.
NO HOMO!!!!!!!

I see man....I'm a little slow today. The storm took out power everywhere.
They turn it on and a house on the next block starts cooking. So no power again.
I’m optimistic also, the improvements are quite impressive, the level of talent on the roster is light years better then 3 years a go. But the easy part is behind us. Getting to this level from 0 and 16 was expected, and let’s all act like we’ve been here before and not like a pack of starry eyed groupies. Like that tard on another thread with his 16 and 0 shit.
I say 9 and 7, maybe 10 and 6 with a little luck, like a lack of critical injuries which would be a monumental feat. It’s tough to move up from this point.

Shoot, I have my moments though..
I think we have the best QB in the league if he stays healthy. That kid is it. I also think Linehan is a top 5 if not the best OC in the league due to adaptability and fluidity of offense. He’s head and shoulders above so many OC’s it’s not even funny.
Watch other games this season and you’ll say WTF?, watching primitive O’s and come to appreciate what he’s done.
