Corvey Irvin Headed To Detroit Lions
It appears the Detroit Lions have added defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, who was released by the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. This is based on a tweet that Irvin sent out on Sunday night (his account is private, so below is a retweet from a Panthers writer at the Gaston Gazette).
Corvey Irvin to Detroit. RT @CJIrvin93: Ok, change of plans!!! It's been real Charlotte!! but I'm headed to Detroit. "what up doe"
Although many are assuming Irvin has been signed to the 53-man roster, I tend to think he was simply added to the practice squad. The Lions are set at defensive tackle with Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Nick Fairley, Sammie Hill and Andre Fluellen, and Irvin is eligible for the practice squad.
Drafted in the third round in 2009 out of Georgia, Irvin has only played in two games in his NFL career. He spent the 2009 season on injured reserve and spent most of last season on the practice squad. This means he is eligible for the practice squad, and it also means that it's highly unlikely he is going to take the spot of one of the defensive tackles currently on the Lions roster. I suppose we shall see, though.

Very interesting
Would love to see him on the practice squad. I’m way too happy with our current line to have them trade anyone away.

Vanden Bosch Injury
I’m beginning to wonder if there is more to Kyle’s sore shoulder? The Lions did keep bringing in DL right to the end, and perhaps keeping Fluellen over Callway had more to do with his versatility at DE.

Always good to have more depth
Just in case someone gets hurt. And who knows maybe practicing with some great d linemen he can learn something and mayhew can use him for trade bait or something
I wounder who has been signed to the practice squad so far

ps makes sense
he may be a bust, but he hasn’t been around Kocurek or been in our locker room…those guys seem to make everyone that comes in WAY better. So if there’s anyone going to salvage his draft status, it’d be us IMO!

Why didn't we try and trade Brown for something?
Arizona needs RB’s why not try and trade a young RB who showed promise instead of just cutting him free.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Who knows?
Maybe they did try? It seems like because he initially made the 53 man roster that they could very well have been trying to trade him up until today….

Just read
about this guy on the Panther’s website, he was starting this preseason and flashed some brilliance, but inconsistency ultimately sealed his fate. If he’s in fact capable of someday starting in this league and has our position coaches to work with (as previously stated by rames), I’m all for it. Nice to have so much potential in the practice squad and not so much strictly out on the field anymore….
