Where The Detroit Lions 53-Man Roster Stands
It looks like the Detroit Lions roster for the opening week of the 2011 season is set. After trimming down their roster to 53 players on Saturday and doing some fine-tuning on Sunday, the Lions appear to have finalized their squad for Week 1. It's always possible a trade or another move could happen, but as of early Monday morning, the Lions roster looks like this:
Note: Although the Lions continue to list Stefan Logan as a wide receiver, I am listing him as a running back. He is more of a specialist than anything and obviously doesn't play just one position, but he is certainly more of a running back than a wide receiver.

Practice Squad?
Hey Sean… any other confirmations beside Casey Bender? Do you think Corvey Irvin is headed there? I hope Vanden Bosch’s shoulder doesn’t become an issue.

I feel better about that RB list
I feel like we got a guy for every occasion and everyone of them can catch out of the backfield so it doesn’t limit our game planning…excited for Sunday!

Silva and Hughes...
I would of rather took a chance with these two over Eke and Flu or even Eke and Davis.

I am okay with the backfield...
Best is the future back and Morris will be the change of pace. I wasnt so high on Harrison at first but he is getting his legs back and looked good against Buf but still wish we cold of landed Clay.
I think that Silva out played out performed and out shined Coleman so still banging my head on seeing him cut.

Going Forward
I still don’t like the fact that Silva is exposed on the PS – I mean – you dream of finding diamonds like him as UDFA’s. The guy has big time size and a nose for the ball. I guess the FO still values Coleman’s overall body of work.
Overall though – this roster is solid and deep enough that we can start building the O line through the back half of the draft order.
Let’s keep Vasher’s # on speed dial.
Walter McFadden a Lion???

solid but dont think this is final after week one cuts
@ the Offense- The offense overall looks pretty solid w/ some much needed depth upgrade in the WR area and the O-Line isnt looking as much as a weakness as the run game if it can protect like last year. However w/ 6-7 weapons available its hard not to see a high ceiling of potential offensively. Stafford all eyes on you w/ a healthy team …
Very surprised that we havent found that true sub or challenge for Raiola. At the guard position Id say is most suspect as once Fox gets off his injury and back w/ Hilliard they will have depth on the line at tackle/G as Hilliard stepped his game up and Fox was looking good early in camp leaving Peterman the most suspect next to Dom. I could still see another move on the line maybe even at Center.
@ RB- just read up on the scouting for todays practice that Williams is showing why he was claimed by Detroit, that is good news early in week. Decent Depth at a struggling position but it seems like the talent is deep enough to keep teams a bit more honest defensively
@ Defense- The sky is the limit even w/ a semi suspect secondary.
@Dline – There’s nothing to say about this line except one thing that some have been mentioning which is KVB. Lets not forget he did have surgery on his neck. A shoulder injury can easily irritate the neck and I believe this was definitely one of those precautions during preseason to make sure it wouldnt nag. This off season was different than any other and the guy is a gamer and a beast when it comes to conditioning. Nice to see Willy/Flu stepping up, think that martial art training really helped him focus and get some hand technique down. Lets hope so cos both will be called on if this line starts taking injury.
@Secondary- 3 ? marks off the top Berry, Mcdonald, Smith i know some wont see this the same but Berry impressed in practice but i saw nothing in those games that said he’s come along really. Mcdonald self explanatory a vet presence at best and will probably never challenge for a 1-2 spot and Smith is only question til he comes back from injury and can pick up where he left off but showing maturity and improvements. This makes me see the secondary as still being a major weakness on Defense. The safeties are coming along good and they should continue .. Amari was looking good to start wasnt even the same player we saw all last season w/ his preseason play alone but they still lack depth behind them for anything other than rotation. I think it will be very important for this secondary starters to stay healthy based on the depth.

we'll see
they should get tested more often this year. I’m more concerned about the coverage of the safeties and LBs. Tulloch is great after the catch, but he still usually allows the catch. Durant is known to struggle with coverage. Delmas has been taken advantage of in coverage, the weird thing is that he diplays solid man coverage in practice all the time, but he’s too often not in the right position on game days. Spievey looks much better, but he’s still somewhat raw and I’m sure will be tested.
I think because of the pressure we get, our CBs do a good job of staying close to their man for the first 2-3 seconds, by that time the QB NEEDS to get the ball out and it usually means a slot QR, TE or RB…
