6 Lions On Initial Injury Report For Buccaneers Game
The first edition of this week's injury report came out on Wednesday. Six players were on it for the Lions, and four of them are defensive players. Here's a rundown of the six players and their status:
RB Maurice Morris (hand) - full practice
OT Jason Fox (foot) - didn't practice
DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (non-football injury) - didn't practice
DT Andre Fluellen (hand) - full practice
DT Nick Fairley (foot) - didn't practice
CB Alphonso Smith (foot) - limited practice
Although Vanden Bosch has been dealing with a shoulder issue, the Lions say he missed practice for a non-football reason. My guess is he simply got a day off, which is why they didn't list a specific injury as the reason for him missing practice.
For the Buccaneers, three players are on their initial injury report: C/OG Ted Larsen, LB Dekoda Watson and CB Myron Lewis. Lewis is the only one who didn't practice at all. Watson was limited and Larsen fully practiced.

Really hoping/wishing
Morris can play a good dose. I’m not betting on it or anything, but it would be great if we had him. He was great at finding those holes last year!
I’m not sure how much we can learn about our run game in this one with Morris likely out or limited and Keiland barley knowing the players – let alone in sync with the blockers…

*barely knowing the plays

The good thing about that though is the QB can direct him to the right spot to line up, and also tell him where to run when the play is called

I would be pretty surprised if Alphonso is dressed for this game.
Might as well go with McDonald and Berry as the depth CBs.
"Filling a need doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a good player," said Schwartz. "It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that best fits; it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting a player that’s better than what you have already."
You sure? Wright in the nickel role? Doesn't make sense to me. Seems like an lock for Alphonso.
cmccosky Chris McCosky
“Ian_Cameron: "IMJUSBMAC: Sick of bein played… But gotta grind …” – BMac might have lost nickel role to E Wright.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
HUH? Wright is not one of our starting corners?
That does not jibe with everything I heard from camp.

Of course he would be in there. I'm saying who would come in as the 5th DB? McCoskey is saying Wright which doesn't make sense.
So who would be the 5th if Macdonald lost that job?……Phonz IMO.

Why wouldn't it be Berry?
He was the starting corner come week 1 last year and while I know he made some mistakes in several preseason games – it doesn’t mean he hasn’t been more consistent throughout camp…Gun obviously likes him a lot.

Schwartz already said Phonze isn't ready yet
was limited the other day in practice but would be ready before 6 weeks…sounds like a week 2 or 3 type of thing to me…leaning on 3 being when they might trust him more.

I think it's just some confusion in responses.
Wright will move over to the nickel and Berry will play CB….So it’s splitting hairs. Berry will come in and Wright will play NB.
.Does your momma have a Big Ass like your head?
gotcha
just read the McCosky article.
Is Wright that physical of a guy that they’d prefer his physicality over Berry and McDonald’s or do they see him as a potential ball hawk (ala Woodson)???

Yesssssssssss!
in that same article:
The linebacker rotation in the nickel package remains in flux, as well. In practice Thursday, DeAndre Levy and Bobby Carpenter ran with the first nickel group. Stephen Tulloch and Justin Durant, the starting middle and outside linebackers, were off the field.

I know they’re testing things, but I really think that’s the smart move to make in passing situations.
It’s soooo different having quality coaches…

Rames, rames, rames
Berry wasn’t the starting CB last year in week1. Wade was the starting CB and went down first, THEN came Berry.
How many lumps you want Doc?
I dont like this as far as letting out the frustration
He needed to keep that in house and that is Schwartz way. The fact is the Lions are going to put their best possible combinations on the field and if his role is being reduced there is reason for it. In reality though his thought process should be more like Stovalls which is you cant control it you just have to play when your numbers called. If he did that instead of bitchin on twitter he might actually move up but doubt it. He should expect reduced role w/ Wright,Houston, Phonz and Berry already ahead of him once Phonz comes back. So his rant is meaningless and unneeded attention being drawn.
A coward dies a thousands Deaths a soldier dies once ....
YUP
and if he truly feels he should be ahead of any of them he should prove it when they put him on the field, not on twitter like a whiny lil child.
KVB practicing today
So is Morris and Fluellen.
We’re quite healthy right now. I’m kinda stunned…

Harrison
will fill the role intended for MoMo if needed. The plays that KWill would be on the field for are pretty basic (Power Right, Power Left, etc) so I think his biggest hurdle will be learning the terminology and playbook. There will be a glimpse of what the power running game will be like, but it will be limited. I expect most of the runs to be from the tackle gaps out. Several swing passes and screen passes. Remember, we didn’t see too many screen passes in the preseason and they were a staple for getting Best in space last year.
As for KVB and the rest of the walking wounded, I’ll believe what I see on Sunday and that will be it. Schwartz & Mayhew are cut from the Belichick cloth of information. Under the old regime, Millen would have announced who was injured, what was injured, how long they were going to be out, and when the next doctors appoint was- just to feel important. I think that Jim and Marty are going by the old saying “Loose lips sink ships” when it comes to injuries and information leaked to the media. We are not dealing with the idiot that used to run things.
I don’t think that Fonz will see much if any play time against TB, just a gut feeling. I also see Wright as the #1A CB with Houston as the #1B, so they are gonna be safe from the addition of Fonz. MacDonald is probably going to be the #2A with Berry as the #2B as it stands right now. Fonz is holding down the fort at the #3 position. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gun did some tweaking on the fly against Tampa, though.
My concern is the LB’s against the pass. At what point does Carp come into the game to cover Winslow?
Agree on Wright looking like the 1A at this time
I’d like to see him over at LCB or at least play the RCB in press man most of the time.
Looks like McDonald has been phased out of starting rotation. Berry is 2A in practices this week…
The Dis-Assembly Line - The unofficial, official name for the next best D-line in football.
also, Carp was in the nickel package with Levy today
so we might see some of Carp on Sunday depending on how Durant handles Winslow and their underneath passing game…

The word is that KVB will be getting every Wednesday off.
This has probably already been posted, but thought I’d throw it in anyway.
I guess they’re going to giving him regular rest to keep him healthy.

Sweet gig.

For once I want to see a Lions season where the enemy injury list is longer than ours
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
I have to admit, that is frustrating to see.
Although the two hand injuries were not restricted in the practice. It appears that we are getting healthier right now. I guess we should be considering that the Lions are practicing and not playing.

Smurf
that comes after the game, for a change.
I hope for the overall safety of both teams, but I am worried that the pent up aggression of the Lions front 4 could mean bad things for opposing QB’s.
What is the line from Waterboy…
“Good news folks! It looks like the 3rd string QB does not have a broken neck after all.”
I like "enemy" much better than "opponent"
I was actually thinking that TB had surprisingly few injuries. Is that the case? Or am I just too used to reading the Lions injury report?

Larsen's hurt?
The Bucs fans seem convinced that Larsen can handle Suh on his own, so it’d be a shame if he missed the game due to injury. :P
I think it is foolish for anyone to think they can "handle" Suh one on one
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Their just as stupid on their site.
Our Dline now sucks because we miss Fairley. The focus will now all be on Suh.

That D is pretty porous
They gave up over 25 points 8 times last year and they have the worst run D in the league. It would not surprise me to see them do worse than 6-10.

Love to see Carp get work in
as he earned it in the preseason being all over the field and covering from side to side.Until Durant shows he can play like we hope he will I say let Carp get the start.
