Detroit Lions Announce 2011 Captains
The Detroit Lions have named their captains for the 2011 season. Just like last year, there are two on offense, one on defense and one on special teams:
Offense: QB Matthew Stafford and C Dominic Raiola
Defense: DE Kyle Vanden Bosch
Special teams: K Jason Hanson
The Lions also will have an extra captain that changes from week to week.
There will also be a weekly captain selected by #Lions coaches. This week it is Maurice Stovall.
Interestingly enough, Stovall is going up against his former team this weekend. He helped the coaches prepare their game plan by sharing information about his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so I bet that had a lot to do with his selection as this week's fifth captain.

stovall getting the nod
Love it. I really hope he has some big plays this weekend and jams the ball down on the bucs fans who were trashing him. He may not be fast but he has great hands. I’ll take that 9 times out of 10.

Great to See a #80 Who Can Catch
…well I guess BJ did have that one TD against the ’Skins. Seems too long ago. I like Stovall also.

haven't seen that since Brett Perriman
But, his play impressed me during the pre-season, got the twin towers & wide out 4 the Lions
I LOVE the idea of weekly captain!
Great motivational tool.
All men are created equal. Its just that some men are more equal than others....
yea gives some praise on
the player that really shined in pratice/game that previous week. I like it cant wait for this weekend
Having a former Bucs player spilling the beans
Is just awesome. I’m glad we got that Stovall, he seems like a poor man’s Calvin Johnson without the speed but with same quality hands. Good pickup by Mayhew.
From 0-16 to the Superbowl baby!

he is pretty fast once he has the ball
I think maybe calvin/burlison is teaching him the ways of the force to be a mirrored CJ, which would scare defenses.
"Mirrored CJ"
If Calvin had a grave he’d lay down and turn.

Secretly?
Fuck, that would rule. I had little expectations for the kid. If he comes in here and backdoors the Bucs for anything close to 100 yds 2 tds, I’ll go be hollerin hell yeah.

I guess Stovall giving up info on his former team
is a part of that business aspect of football that I’m not a fan of. What happened between his teammates and him when he was in Tampa should be exactly that, between his old teammates and him. Everything the Lions need to know about the other team to win is on tape.
NO HOMO!!!!!!!
There is nothing unusual about this.
Every NFL team knows that when they let a player loose they will often give up info on the teams offense or defense. It is just part of the game. Every player is going to do everything they can to help their current team win.

Stovall...
Love to see him stepping up on O and ST… I cant wait to see how he looks with the starters. IMO i think he will contribute alot this year and he is an upgrade over DW and BJ.

Agree with "Put Together" lol
and also think Stovall is a nice surprise, he looked very good in the preseason. Like happens sometimes with players he looks rejuvenated and ready to make his mark. Think he’s going to be a great addition to the team and only help out Calvin and Nate by being a legitimate target. After not having a 3rd wide any team had to worry about on the team I think it will really change the way our offense moves. Great idea with the weekly captains too!
It is a nice advantage to have a guy on your scout team that knows the offense of the team you are playing.
According to Linehan, Stovall played on the scout team this week and that would ahve allowed him to help the Lions closely mimic the plays the Bucs use. They would have a hard time simulating Josh Freeman though.

Just have everyone
Try and sack Will Heller. Comparable size and agility.
