Jim Schwartz's job status being reviewed by Lions, according to report

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Are the Detroit Lions giving some consideration to firing Jim Schwartz? One report says yes, but others say no.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz may not be viewed as someone who is in danger of being fired because he received a contract extension last summer, but his job "has been under review by the Ford family," according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The report from ESPN cites the Lions' image and Schwartz's management style as "issues that have troubled" both William Clay Ford and Bill Ford Jr.

Shortly after this report came out, ESPN's Adam Schefter cited an NFL executive who believes the news is accurate because "the Fords can not be happy." However, there have been at least two people who have come out against the report based on what sources have told them.

The vast majority of national and seemingly all local NFL reporters are under the impression that Schwartz isn't going anywhere. While there have been a few reports about Schwartz being on the hot seat or his job being under review, nothing really suggests a firing is imminent. That could always change with one game still left, but for now, I still would be shocked if the Lions fire Schwartz.
