I know many fans weren't planning to watch the 2012 Pro Bowl to begin with, but you now have no reason to tune in. This is because it was announced on Wednesday that Calvin Johnson, the only Detroit Lions player in the game, has pulled out of the Pro Bowl. He has decided that rather than make the trip to Hawaii to play in the game, he will relax and heal his Achilles injury, which kept him out of several practices in the final weeks of the season.

Dave Birkett reports that Johnson hinted at this decision earlier in the week.

As Calvin Johnson cleaned out his locker Monday, the Detroit Lions’ record-setting receiver said he was looking forward to going home and "letting my body heal up." He’ll have longer to do that than first anticipated.

Johnson's replacement in the Pro Bowl will be Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White.
