Re-signed ≠ resigned
Public service announcement with lots of free agency talk starting and this being one of my biggest pet peeves ...
Re-signed and resigned are two different words. When a player is signed to a new deal with his team, he is re-signing. When somebody quits their job, they are resigning. Saying "Player A resigned with his team" is incorrect. It should be, "Player A re-signed with his team."
Obviously a minor thing, but the dash makes a big difference.

Thanks for the reminder Sean.
You will probably get slagged for being a member of the Grammar Police. LOL
"I’m sorry for all the people who want us to run the ball 40 times a game, but we’re going to put the ball in No. 9’s hands and he’s going to make plays for us like he did today," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. Amen to that Jim!
In my opinion, there's a big difference in nitpicking grammar
and identifying incorrect word choices that change the whole complexion of the statement. I’m re-signed to the fact that speeling will always be a problem, their going to happen irregardless.
It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

Offence/offense is the same word.
British vs American spellings.

Yep
And we have several non-Americans on here, so that, along with defense, doesn’t bother me.

Yeah that was a faux pas on my part.
Spelling with the C is pretty much everywhere not America. No offense to the non-Brits!
The law vs sports distinction is actually about how they’re pronounced than the spelling. Sports pronounces it OFF-ense, whereas every other use of the word is off-ENSE.

I am not Brit i just can't spell
so guess that throws a monkey wrench in me using that excuse. I pretty much violate every possible rule on here..spelling.. puncuation… gramar
get what i did? (oh and i don’t use capital letters correctly either).
Now if you see a totally correct comment you know to call the police because someone has murdered me and taken my place!!!
Oh my god, thank you
I wish more people would make this post, I feel my brain die a little when I see that mistake.

I think Sean cracked the top ten as far as informative posts with this one.

I know this difference exists and I still mess it up on occasion.
I think it is just my lazy proofreading skills, or more accurately, my lack of any proofreading at all. I blame it on trying to rest my old, poor eyes. That’s my story and I am sticking with it! LOL

Never really cared about correct punctuation on sports blogs....
I mean who cares? It’s not like we’re making life and death decisions in here, or discussing quantam physics.
That said, the whole defence, offence shit does get on my nerves sometimes. Other than that I don’t really care.
"That's my quarterback man"- T.O.
who cares?
Well if you’re interested in communicating an idea to someone via writing, that person cares. I knowe, sum peeple loose intrst in speeling kerectly becos its sew hard, but it rilly heps us reeders.
I'm not though.
Especially not on a fucking football blog. Now if I happened to be sending an email to my boss or something of that nature I would be much more conscious of my grammar. I don’t understand how a misplaced Comma makes it harder for you to “reed.” I mean when I check my ten year old niece ‘s homework I don’t struggle to read it because it’s not perfect. If you do than your probably not much smarter than than the person who’s punctuation you are criticizing.
Here’s another thing. A lot of times when someone’s grammar is not flawless it’s not due to one’s illiteracy, but due to the fact that said person has very little time to comment. For example, I like to post at times during my 5 to 10 minute breaks at work. I’m in a hurry. I have no doubt that many of you have similar issues as well. Also, a lot of the times people are posting via mobile phones. It takes considerably more time when posting with my iPhone rather my laptop
Again, this is just a football blog for god’s sake. The most important things debated here are the lion’s draft day hopes and such. Go police some other blog for their grammar because frankly I’m tired of the shit
By the way, I was not responding to Sean’s initial post. He runs this blog and can police whomever he wishes.

You are missing the point
It’s not about grammar police. It’s about writing what you mean. Grammar rules are what we use to be understood correctly.
If you said “Suh resigned with the Lions”, that would be saying his career was over. Is that what you meant? I would think not.
Could someone else figure it out based on common sense and context? Sometimes. But why make them wonder? Use the rules. Be clear.

Better example:
Jim Schwartz resigned with the Lions. There it makes a ton of difference. One little dash could lead to a 400+ comment thread of panicking/bitching.

makes Sean look like a soothsayer. It came just a few days after this post.
