Way too early 2012 season prediction

Okay let me be first to say that I am writing about is WAY too early to predict as we only know of the teams each team is playing and whether they are home or away. Now as to the prediction. One fun fact is every year it seems 5 of the 12 playoff teams do not make the playoffs next year. As a result what 5 teams are you predicting will not make it next year and who replaces them? Mine after the jump

NFC:

East - Philadelphia

North - Green Bay

South - New Orleans

West - San Francisco

Wildcards - Detroit, Seattle

AFC:

East - New England

North - Pittsburgh

South - Indianapolis

West - San Diego

Wildcards - Baltimore, NY Jetties

So that means I we will have Philly, Seattle, Indy, San Diego, and the Jetties as new teams for the playoffs next year. If anybody has other thoughts feel free to list them I like to see what you guys think. BTW this year we had 6 new teams for the playoffs. It was Detroit, San Francisco, NY Gmen, Houston, Denver, and Cincy.

I don't see either Seattle or the Jets

making the playoffs. Also, I think next year is the year we win the North. We were close to beating the Packers twice this year, and we might have been able to sweep the Bears had Staff not broken his finger. If we can keep our backs healthy next year, and improve a few spots, I say we win the North.

Will say this

Packers coaching staff is gonna be dismantled. This is a great year for us to catch them. Detroit might win the divison or atleast keep it tight.

I agree completely with this. We have a good schedule this year, as our scheds go. I think we are properly positioned to take the Division this year.

Bolts are toast. Smith and Turner coming back just sucked whatever life was left, right out of that franchise

I doubt Houston gets worse next year

Schuab will be healthy again, and will hopefully play more than six quarters with both Arian Foster and Andre Johnson. If that happens, expect Houston in the playoffs.

I’d also watch the Indy QB situation carefully, if they go with Luck, they may decide to rebuild. San Diego will not return to the playoffs as long as Norv Turner is their head coach, bookmark this page if you want, but I stand by this statement. I also don’t think Philadelphia makes it past 9-7 with Mike Vick as their QB, if that’s enough to win the East, good on them, otherwise, give Young the starting job.

I’ll just toss out my list for comparison:

NFC:
East- Cowboys
North- Detroit
South- New Orleans
West- 49ers
Wildcards- Seattle, Green Bay

AFC:
East- New England
North- Baltimore
South- Houston
West- Oakland
Wildcards- Cincinnati, Buffalo

Tough call going Bufflo over Pittsburgh, but of all the teams I see falling out of the playoffs, they seem more likely than a rising Cinci, or a Ravens team that’s found itself.

Doubt I'll get much agreement, but

NFC:
North- Detroit
South- New Orleans
East- Giants
West- Saints
Wildcards- Packers, Panthers

AFC
North- Baltimore
South- Houston
East- New England
West- Chargers

I think the Packers will have a falling out with a decimated coaching staff. I kind of feel like Matt Flynn proved that the Packers have a great offensive scheme, and if that were to change then I could see even Aaron Rodgers having issues in a new scheme. Therefore Detroit will have a golden opportunity to finally become the dominant NFCN team. The other division leaders would remain the same, and the Packers will squeak in with a 9-7 Wild Card. The Panthers would get a 10-6 5th seed. I feel like the Panthers are a healthy defense and a productive offseason away from becoming a contender. Newton was amazing with no offseason, and Rivera didn’t have much time to implement their plan. They went from 2-14 to 6-10, 10-6 is a real possibility IMO.

The only real difference with the AFC that i have is the Chargers winning the west next year. They’re a good team, and if they get their act together they can beat out the Tebows, the new-coach Raiders, and new-coach Chiefs.

For what its worth

NFC

North-GB
South-NO
East-Dallas
West-SF
Wildcard-Det, ATL

People are being too quick riding ATL off. Young QB with good weapons should still be good.

AFC

East-NE
South-Houston
North-Balt
West-SD
Wildcard-Pitt, Jets

SD has more talent than anyone in the West and should squeak by. Indy could compete for last wildcard if they keep Manning.

by jeremy j on Jan 18, 2012 11:21 AM EST reply actions

ATL lost both coordinators

They got Nolan as D coord and he is going to be good
They got some no name guy whose resume includes shitting the bed in Jax the past couple years as their O coord. Not good feelings there. Mike Smith grabbed him because he knew him. We all went though the hell of bringing in your friends to coach your team.

ATL may be overshadowed by the Panthers next year

My reasoning

Seattle being in 3rd place has Dallas who is falling apart IMHO and Carolina with no defense and it will take a lot of work to get Carolina’s D up to snuff. Then you have the fact that they play the AFC East next year and should be able to win a couple from them just by having them home plus one away game. So I see 10 to 11 victories for them after everything is done. Now if they fall apart I will say the coaches are gone IMHO. Next up is the reasoning for Indy and Houston switch. First is Manning you can not discount him. He is the best QB when he is playing. Plus he is going to be in the process of teaching and coaching at the same time which will keep him more than busy enough to focus just on football. Plus their schedule is a cake walk with who they have to play. Houston on the other hand has both NE and Baltimore to deal with not any teams they will get by next year. Plus with Indy back that is 4 losses right there. Not to mention the aspect that the Jets are going to be firing on all cylinders to save Rex and that will push the Jets over Houston for the Wildcard. I also think most can agree that Oakland with the firing is screwed, Denver is not going to be good enough with their WRs, KC is like big brother and has no way of being creative so who is left but SD so they get in by default. I do not see any changes for Baltimore or Pittsburgh except for the aspect that with Baltimore winning the SB they are going to have an off year with everybody trying to knock them off the pedestal.

A further thought on Indy and the coaching change. Think about Manning, he is sitting there seeing his team just fall apart because the coaches could not change the offense to suit the QB. Manning was calling the play at the Line for every play the past 10 years. When he goes down the coaches could not figure out how to operate a decent game plan. Would you want to play for coaches like that. Look at Denver, they changed the offense to use Tebow’s strengths and not try to shove an offense that is not geared towards his skill set to him. That is the sign of good coaching IMHO. And I think Peyton was thinking the same thing.

You made a typo
Denver is not going to be good enough with their WRs QB

There, I fixed it for you.

by ATL Lion on Jan 18, 2012 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

actually it wasn't a typo

He will be good but for pete sakes did you see the number of pass drops made by his WRs against NE. That has to stop if he is going to be successful. It almost looked like the Lions from years ago IMHO. Tebow is a good QB just needs some time to get up to speed on being a QB in the NFL. Remember he had zero time the past two off seasons to get better. So now with Elway mentoring him in the offseason I think people will be surprised but the simple fact is you need targets and Denver has no targets.

by MisterEK on Jan 18, 2012 4:01 PM EST up reply actions

Did you see the passes that were thrown to them?? I couldn’t catch a pass from tebow with a 3 year old covering me.The dude has piss poor accuracy and unless that magically changes next season I would hardly discount their WR’s.

I'm going to go against the grain a little

NFC
North – Minnesota
East – Washington
South – Tampa Bay
West – Arizona

AFC
North – Cleveland
East – Miami
South – Jacksonville
West – Kansas City

I think it’s more fun picking the least likely outcome.

Hey that's a timeout, I can play right? yeah, get me--get the F-- Help me up...I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the ball...

by n4ry4 on Jan 18, 2012 3:56 PM EST reply actions

That would be CRAZY

but it would shock the NFL to the core and maybe it would be a fun SB to watch.

by MisterEK on Jan 18, 2012 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

Matt Flynn in Arizona against McCoy in Cleveland would be a fun game.

Some rational....

No New Orleans…. Even though the offense is lights out… With a new defensive Coordinator and aging personell… I can’t see how this defense can win games, though, I do think they’ll lose a bunch.

No to San Fran…. AFter their devestating loss to the NYG in the NFC championship game. Harbaugh struggles to hold the fundementals together and the team under performs…. call it a sophmore slump. (Alex Smith returns to form)
Yes to St Louis… Believe it or not, but this team is stacked with talent on both sides of the ball. Jeff Fischer has a wet dream as the Rams stay healthy all year and shock the NFC west with a 1 game lead to take the division. (Long has a breakout year)

AFC….

No to NYJ… need I say anything? A new OC can’t make chicken soup… out of Mark Sanchez… and even though the locker room’s petty squabbling is put to rest, the injury bug isn’t. Rex finds a new job for 2013.

Yes to Cinci…. Finally, no whiny WRs… no pouty QBs… Just some good ol’fashion Red Rifle shootin’ the lights out of Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Yes to KC… Romeo has taken his licks, but finally has talent to work his magic. Solid Running game, Solid QB, Solid Defensive talent… this team takes an easy AFC East.

Ravens and Steelers have too much veteran leadership not to make the playoffs…. but that’s all they’re going to do. Flacco is regressing (Personally, I blame the OC)…. The Steelers have bluehairs all over their roster. ( time to organize some death panels). Both team have some good wins, but ultimately, more bad losses and barely squeak into the playoffs.
