2013 Super Bowl Odds: Detroit Lions Open Offseason At 20-1

One of the more interesting things during last year's offseason was tracking the Super Bowl odds for the Detroit Lions. Over the course of the offseason, their odds got increasingly better not only for making the Super Bowl, but for winning the whole thing. The Lions' odds opened at 40-1 last February, and by July they were at 18-1. After the season began and the Lions won a few games, their odds actually improved to a shocking 10-1.

This offseason, the Lions' odds for the 2013 Super Bowl are opening at 20-1. Given that they went 10-6 and made the playoffs in 2011, it shouldn't be a big surprise that the oddsmakers are giving them a legitimate chance to make a run at the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

It will be just as interesting this year to track the Lions' odds over the course of the offseason. I have a feeling we could see them drop if the Lions are unable to re-sign certain guys, but they could also improve with a solid draft.

Sounds about right

A lot hinges on these off season signings.

But the Jets and the Cowboys 20-1 as well? Are you kidding?

Both have huge followings

A ton of money gets put on both teams, so Vegas applies odds with that in mind.

Lions got that treatment last year

Even though they were losing, they were always covering the spread and people were putting huge money on them. So vegas kept moving it to try to get money on the other team each week.

I had some money on them at 40/1 this year

Going to put some more down for next. I was thinking they would be at least 8/1, but 20/1 is still a good bet.
